College Football analyst Phil Steele recently predicted what the AP Preseason Top 25 would look like when it comes out and thinks LSU will be ranked No. 6.

The Tigers open the season on Sunday, September 3, vs Florida State. Steele predicts the Seminoles to be ranked No. 7 in the AP preseason poll. Per SI.com:
quote:

6. LSU

Where LSU was: 10-4 (6-2 SEC), def. Purdue in the Citrus Bowl

LSU's last ranking: No. 16

Where LSU is now: Three of LSU's most important pieces from its surprise SEC West title run are back in 2023: quarterback Jayden Daniels, also the team's leading rusher, defensive end Maason Smith, and linebacker Harold Perkins.

7. Florida State

Where Florida State was: 10-3 (5-3 ACC), def. Oklahoma in the Cheez-It Bowl

Florida State's last ranking: No. 11

Where Florida State is now: Looking like a genuine title contender in the ACC after the decision of both quarterback Jordan Travis and edge rusher Jared Verse to return in 2023, combined with some important transfer portal additions including defensive back Fentrell Cypress, a skilled coverage piece who will help FSU's pass defense. Mike Norvell teams always run the ball well and should again, even despite losing back Treshaun Ward, but the Seminoles have statement games against LSU and Clemson that will determine how their season ends up.

Top 10 matchup to start the season. Doesn’t get any better!

yeah, it doesn't get any better than that, we have to get off to a fast start by taking care of Fla state. I knew Mike Norvell would turn them around from the wreck that they were under the previous coach. That previous coach, I forget his name, but I think he has another headcoach gig right now and I don't know how in the hell he does because he destroyed 2 quality football schools in Oregon and FSU. But I wanted LSU to hire Mike Norvell when he was at Memphis when they hired coach O after firing Miles because I knew Norvell was the real deal. But LSU has a good headcoach now, so, all's well, let's roll! Lol

I hate Pre-season Polls. Not that we are/aren't the 6th best team or they are/aren't the 7th best team, this is just hype for TV. To me polls shouldn't be released until week 5.

there's a comma in there. he's referring to Williams. He just didn't use his name. Shotty journalism and poor sentence structure. read it again

... except M. Smith was not a piece of the title run.

You're right, he is reporting that incorrectly. Lol Smith would have been a part of the SEC west title run had he stood healthy, but he will play an important part this season. So, I hope he dominates on that DLine along with Mekhi Wingo because that will open up lanes for LBer extraordinaire Harold Perkins.

Wasn’t LSU 6th before 2019?
