Paul Finebaum was on the ESPN College Football podcast with Matthew Barrie and named five coaches that LSU AD Scott Woodward could be interested in to replace Ed Orgeron. Per On3.com:
quote:

“It’s really hard to chisel that one down,” Finabaum said. “There are some who believe the AD Scott Woodward wants…you ready for this…Dabo Swinney. Now, there’s talk that the president wants Mel Tucker (head coach at Michigan State). Billy Napier (ULL head coach) is out there maybe as a second-tier selection if everyone else goes bust. It seems like Jimbo (Fisher) is out of that one.

“Can James Franklin pop back into these? I don’t know. But I think after yesterday James Franklin might be looking around saying, ‘What else can I do here.’

“It’s a good job (Penn State) but it certainly isn’t getting any easier. It’s not really a big deal anymore when Clemson loses, but that loss yesterday, Matt, I mean, that was a dagger…..That was a seismic loss.”

I wanted Franklin until last saturday’s game. He really can make some boneheaded calls in key situations.

This is how idiotic this statement is, Dabo since 2011 2011 10–4 2012 11–2 2013 11–2 2014 10-3 2015 14-1 2016 14-1 2017 12-2 2018 15-0 2019 14-1 2020 10-2

No surprise, I'm sure, if it is true the LSU president wants Mel Tucker.

He did a google search before this segment. He has zero "inside sources" at LSU. His inside source is subsribing to tigerbait like all of us.

Paul just reads the Tiger Rant for his info. You can tell from his blurb about the President wanting Mel Tucker. I'm as critical of Tate as anyone but all I've heard is Tate just wants a winner regardless of skin color. The "Tate only wants a black coach" narrative is Rant conspiracy.

Of that list Franklin is the only one that might be realistic and qualified based on track record. Jimbo has a better situation at A&M, Dabo has no reason to leave unless he wants to replace Saban, Tucker and Napier would be stretching based on experience. LSU set the precedent of paying someone unqualified $8million to be head coach, so anyone else would be a fool to take less.

Losing to Illinois disqualifies him. Not only can't he win big games, but he also loses to crappy teams.

LSU only paid O that much AFTER he won an Undefeated, Undisputed CFP Championship after the 2019 GOAT Season. Im not sure an ‘unqualified’ person could have that many things just magically fall into his lap. Sorry but theres really NO WAY around the fact that w/o CEO there’s no way 2019 happens at LSU!

You do realize when CEO signed that contract right?

I see Franklin going to USC over LSU if offered. Much easier to win than go through the SEC year in and year out.

The president wanting Mel tucker is racist.

StadiumDormRat'7230 months
It is absolutely mind-boggling how many people whole-heartedly believe that a black football coach has been mandated. Oh BTW simply preferring a white or black candidate is not necessarily racism.... Even hating white people or bkack people is not racism- bigotry or prejudice, yeah, but in order to be "racism" there has to be a systemic and cultural disadvantage installed and maintained in place. It's an integral part of the definition.

If Tucker gets it, it's bullshite. Not even a race/woke thing. Dude has been a head coach for 3 seasons. F that. We need experience and a great track record.

14-12 an HC. I repeat. 14-12 as an HC.

What's the downvotes for? Y'all want a head coach with 26 games under his belt to handle one of the largest programs in the country?

He (Tucker)hasn't beaten a team with more than even wins/losses in a long long time. Maybe never.

How does he know who SW is looking at? Has he talked with him, and if so, there is no way SW says anything to him. He knows as much as we do. He has sauces just like us, meaning....those sauces don't know crap.

If it's Tucker Woodward did not make the hire.
user avatar

First off Finebaum knows absolutely nothing. Secondly, its been widely reported that the president told Scott Woodward that this was his hire to make and wont be influenced in ANY way.

It’s laughable that anyone believes that the newly hired LSU president has even a fraction of a say in this. The ONLY piece that the president has was said in a piece already. The almighty dollar is the ONLY decision maker here. The list was given to them, marked in red ink with lines through names, circles around names, questions marks after others and names were added to present Rev. 1. Some names that were lined through in red may reappear on Rev. 2 but I know one thing is certain, the new president didn’t have any of his red ink on Rev. 0 or any following. Now could his little piece said influence any of them? Possible but not likely. This entire damn mess was helped along by those same futile ideas which he believes whole heartedly. You can kiss LSU football good bye if those ideas start to infiltrate decisions on LSUs next HC or any coach for that matter. That crap should never influence any hire anywhere. The most qualified individual should always get that job. Now if you have two individuals who are equally qualified and if you feel that the minority can help you in ways the other can’t then hire him. It’s that damn simple. No amount of pressure could convince me to hire anyone for any other reason but merit. I’d also never hire my best friends son or my own son to a position where they weren’t the best candidate.

Brent Venables is who I want. If Dabo comes with him, so be it.
user avatar
jp4lsu30 months
Do you remember the defenses Venables fielded while at Oklahoma? They were always terrible. Yes he had success at Clemson in a crap conference. But what are they doing this year on defense losing to the teams they have lost too. Clemson can keep the hyperactive defense coach.

The college football world has figured this guy's shtick of stealing signs. As long as you move faster than his army of sideline GAs that analyze and communicate the other team's offensive play calls back, he isn't all that.
