Earlier this month, former LSU Tiger and current Arizona cornerback Patrick Peterson made it known that he thinks he is worth all, if not more money than Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman who signed a $57.4 million extension on May 12th.

Sherman responded right away on Twitter:

Recently on a Phoenix radio show, Peterson was asked about Sherman's tweet, and he had this to say about the Seahawks cornerback, per ESPN:
quote:

"I believe if you put him in our system I don't think he'd be able to last, honestly," Peterson said on "The Bickley Show with Vince Marotta" on Arizona Sports 98.7 in Phoenix. "I actually do much more than he is."

"I don't want to get into that debate as far as the stats that he has and things he has," Peterson said. "Obviously, his job is definitely much easier than mine. If you look at their scheme and look at our scheme, he's a Cover 3 corner. Period."

"He's only covering space. He's not really covering a guy," Peterson said. "At the end of the day, he has great stats and he has great playmaking ability, not taking that away from him because he is a good corner.

"But as far as being a shutdown corner, man-to-man guy, in my eyes, I don't believe he's that."
Don't expect Sherman to give up this debate anytime soon.

Pp is all class . RS is a "me" guy . I will take PP any day over that other clown . He does more than just cover someone . He is extremely good at punt returns and he plays a little offense . That's to much for the mouth to handle

I am biased but if Patrick is correct in citing that Seattle plays zones as their regular coverage then it's obvious who is the better shut down corner. It isn't even an argument.

If Sherman is going to talk any smack at all towards Patrick then he had better spend an entire season shutting down each and very one of Seattle's opponent's top receivers 100% by himself without any safety help. In fact, if Arizona is playing him anything like he was used in college then there will never be a safety even considering to care about Patrick's opp. If there is only one rec on Patrick's side then safeties don't even care about that side.

That's all that Sherman has to do guys, lock down each and every opponent's top WR without any help. In fact, what ever safety would usually be backing his side deep will be either totally focusing on the other side or is playing the run instead of the pass which is one of the reasons why PP allows his defense to do things that no other defense can do.

So when that offense is used to using that top receiver to be their go to guy and even demand double teams from safeties shows up in Ariz, their offense will be totally unable to count on those two things all game long. If they try to go there anyway then they get burned by a CB that was known as one of the best return men in the nation by far. So an interception will always get returned 30+ yards on the average. Basically, he is always a better receiver than the guy that he is covering.

Yeah, I had no idea that Sherman hardly ever played man on their opponent's top receiver. If a CB doesn't man up on the other teams tiop threat and shut him down then he is not a shut down corner and he is not better tha PP

Patrick Peterson is asked to do way more than Sherman is in his system, that is true.BUT Peterson gets burned way...way more than Sherman ever has. Alot of fans of the other NFC West teams hate Sherm, but say they would rather go up against Peterson than Sherman at this point.

This is the attitude you want with a corner. Reminds me a lot of a former #21 for the Cowboys.
