Nicholls State defensive back Quinton Cage announced on Twitter Friday night that he is transferring to LSU. He will join the roster as a preferred walk-on. Per The Advocate:

Cage told The Advocate on Friday night that he will enroll in school and join Ed Orgeron's program as a preferred walk-on after a solid first season with the Colonels.

Cage accumulated 30 tackles, including 11 for a loss, in seven games during Nicholls' 2021 spring season after the 2020 fall schedule was canceled by COVID.

I like it. Need depth there and you get a guy who fits the “hungry with something to prove” mold.

He was a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award (FCS Heisman)as a freshman so apparently he’s not just some scrub. Hopefully he’ll provide some reliable depth.

Great. Completely fine with it as long as it’s not a full ride like the other D-2 guys we’ve taken.

This is how you test yourself, walking onto DBU when you were on scholarship at Nicholls. That takes guts. Let's see how he developes.

No shite. The man wants to be a tiger and compete at that level and is willing to put it on the line and forego his scholarship. Have to respect that.

This is an amazing get. A serious player without using a scholarship.

Guys like this is great for our culture. Young man has impressive stats and decided he wanted to walk on and compete. You think he wants it? May not start but will certainly push the group and make the team better. IMO, this is a great addition. I hope he eventually gets a scholarship.

Didn't we get a cornerback from there last year...but, I don't recall him ever getting in a game and I forget his name...I hope this one not only gets in the game but does very well.

Darren Evans got in the Miss St.game and was immediately burned for a 40 yard td pass on the very next play.

Some players get overlooked in high school and end up going to smaller schools like Nichols. The same way some players get overhyped in high school and end up at a big-time program when they really belong at a school like Nichols. Sometimes players improve drastically in their first year or two in a college program as well.
