It was reported last week that LSU special teams coach Thomas McGaughey would be leaving the Tigers to take the same position with the New York Jets. Yesterday we found out that those reports were true. Per NY Daily News...

The Jets hired LSU’s Thomas McGaughey as the team’s new special teams coordinator Wednesday. McGaughey has been the special teams coordinator and defensive assistant at LSU for the past three seasons.

McGaughey was previously believed to be the leading candidate for the job, but the Jets waited to announce the move until the end of National Signing Day, so as not to adversely affect LSU’s recruiting, according to a source.
This is what McGaughey Tweeted out this morning:

Good luck. As you know...the pro game is another world. Look forward to seeing you as a HC in the future. Enjoyed watching you coach at LSU. Our son coaches STs and we know a little about it. He was with the Bills a few years. It is the road to becoming a HC. Good Luck.
