Many senior student-athletes across the country had their college careers come to an abrupt end on Thursday when the NCAA announced that they would be canceling the remaining winter and spring championships.

One of those athletes was LSU guard Skylar Mays, a Baton Rouge native that made a tremendous impact during his four years at LSU on-and-off the court.

On Thursday evening, Mays took to social media to send out this farewell message to fans:

Mays is one of my favorite Tigers of all time, and not only for what he did on the court. He's the ultimate role model for kids, in every way.

Much respect to Skylar, his teammates and his family. Hell of a representation of LSU.

This is so wrong. Sky has given four years to this school and then a beaurocratic organization takes away his last postseason... there’s gotta be another way.

It's unfortunate for him, but it's the practical thing to do for the well being of the entire population. We will all have to make sacrifices in the short term.

It truly is stupid. There is no reason to cancel any NCAA activities.

Practical to postpone, but not cancel. Not yet.

I would've liked to seen how he finished. They showed flashes of greatness this year. We can only wish on what would've happened if they sparked and made a run.

A man named Skylar?

Yep and probably has more guts and surely more smarts than you ever thought of having otherwise you wouldn't ask such a stupid question.

Mays, you're loved by every tiger fan there is. You were a great kid and now you're a great man. Brilliant, hard working, mature, talented. These words discribe mays and embroider the standard of class we all want to see from our student athletes. You were a great leader for us and won't be forgotten. Thanks for being a Tiger man.

that word you're groping for is "embody". not "embroider", FFS

Love love LOVE me Skylar Mays. Shame it ended like this. I hope he can carve out a nice NBA career, but if not, he will be Excel in the medical field. He's not the best tiger player ever but he's my favorite one. Great career young man! Been an honor to watch you grow as a player and person.

Wish they could get another year of eligibility over this. But then again, Skylar would prolly have 7 more degrees if they did lol

Why shouldn’t they? If the NCAA pulls this stunt with football there will be a riot.
