LSU starting quarterback Max Johnson announced Tuesday night that he is entering his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

Johnson, a sophomore from Athens, Georgia, started in every game for the Tigers this season, passing for 2,815 yards, 27 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

With Johnson transferring, LSU has a huge question mark at the quarterback position for the Texas Bowl. Either true freshman Garrett Nussmeier will have to burn his redshirt or we might see a walk-on play vs. Kansas State.

As for the quarterback room next year, elite five-star passer Walker Howard is currently committed to the Tigers and fully onboard with new head coach Brian Kelly.

So is that freshman that good that even Max assumes the new kid will beat him out? Why else would he leave?

Maybe this means Myles is coming back

He’s not a good QB and his dad has that stench or “play my kid” syndrome

Did Max start every game this year?

No Nussmeier started the Arkansas game but Max finished it. Max started all but one game and played in all of them.

Yes. Nuss came in after about two drives and outisde of one or two passes was extremely mediocre.

Losing Jake is a bigger deal than Max.

He recognizes he is not the QB for the future of LSU.

Making room for Arch?

Not even close to being a starter at our level. 2 years away at least.

Arch is not coming to LSU. There is a reason why non of the Mannings came to LSU and Arch will follow suit and leave the state as well. I figure Arch will either go to Texas or Ole Miss.

Does this mean his dad is gonna stop the TickyTocks?

It's a shame because Johnson is our most experienced and best quarterback on the present roster. Whether he would continue to be the best after another quarterback or two join the roster depends entirely on his own work and development. That will be the case wherever he goes.

Wish him the best, but he needs a few more years before he is SEC ready, much less the NFL.

This cannot be! Doesn't he know that LSU just hired a mad offensive genius away from Notre Dame?! The guy wins wherever he goes!! Or maybe they met and he realized what a douchenozzle the new coach is.

Ooh. U big mad.

Or maybe he realized he sucks and Nuss and Howard are the future

Did you consider him a douche nozzle when he was at Notre Dame? Coaches leave, get over it.

Already has.

So one thing is for sure, MJ didn't like what was to unfold in the future hence, transfer portal. BK could have fed him some B.S. and a promise but that is not his style. Nuss and Walker is the future...... Trust in the process - GEAUX TIGERS!

That decision to start/play Nuss against Arkansas really looms large, now…..

Why? Nuss stunk it up just as much as Max. That should’ve made him want to stay and compete. Especially now that Orgeron is gone. Kelly must be bringing in a transfer. Only thing that makes sense.

Can TJ come back.

No. You can only transfer once through the portal.

The transfer portal has to go. The way it works is going to ruin the college game.

But is what’s best for the players.

Well I am glad that we had a transfer portal in the late 2010s. It benefits teams as much as it hurts them generally.

Now it’s “sold to the highest bidder”.

So now Nussmeier will lose his redshirt for a crappy bowl game? Real nice. ??

Why would he lose his redshirt over a Texas Bowl. There is no way they play him in that bowl unless he wants to play. He’s not going to be at LSU for four years anyway. Either he starts and leaves for NFL or Walker starts and he leaves for another school.

He's the only scholarship qb left on the roster

2,815 yards, 27 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Pretty damm good stats in the SEC if you ask me. A lot of experience just walked out the door. Hope you "WALKER FOR HEISMAN" posters know they ran his dad out of town real fast. I watched both of them play (Dad and Son) and I'd say his dad was better. Ya'll don't remember that because if was before 90% of you were born.

Okay, but there’s no way to make a fair comparison until Walker actually gets here and plays. The only way you can compare them right now is by what they did in HS. Hardly a fair comparison…..Let’s see what happens and trust the process.

Is 2800 yards supposed to make us want him to stay? Brennan threw for 1100 yards in three games the year before and people on here anointed Johnson the starter in camp even before Brennan was hurt. I have no problem with Max leaving if he wants and those numbers you mentioned will be pretty easy to replace.

I liked his Dad, and still do, but I'll never forget the game against Auburn where he set the record for pick-sixes. (I think 4 in one game.)
