Update:
LSU officially announced the hire of Ed Orgeron as the permanent head coach of the football team on Saturday. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

Orgeron, a native of Larose, Louisiana, becomes the 33rd head football coach in LSU history. Orgeron, who has also served as head coach at Ole Miss and Southern Cal, is 11-4 in his Past 15 games as a head coach, which includes a 6-2 mark as interim coach at USC.

"This is a great day for LSU and for all of Louisiana," Alleva said. "We got our man and he's been here all along. Coach Orgeron has demonstrated his ability to run this program with excellence, even under difficult circumstances. Coach ‘O' earned this job.

"I worked closely with (LSU) President Alexander and board leadership throughout a very deliberate process. By the end of that process, our decision was clear. Coach Orgeron took us step by step through every aspect of his plans for this program and there was no question that he is the man to lead LSU football."

I don't know whether O will be successful or not. But I do believe he'll kill himself trying to make the Tigers succeed. To Coach O, the LSU job is not a stepping stone, it's not a job. It will be his life. And I love that.

That's my opinion as well. Instead of paying ridiculous amount of money to hire someone who only treats LSU as a temp stop or stepping stone, and having to worry about getting into a bidding war with another school every offseason, I would rather hire someone who truly cares about this program and appreciates this once in a life time opportunity as it is. For those O haters, stopping being so close minded and judge him based on who he was 10 freaking years ago. People can change and so can they improve. Would you rather you next employer judge you based on your performance from a decade ago instead of who you are right now? Give the man a chance and see what he can do. Like it or not, he is our head coach now. Rally behind him and cheer for his success!

I'll never forget the liift he gave us at SC when we needed it. He wasn't perfect, but he had heart. I hope he kicks arse at LSU. Geaux Tigers!

Thanks, LAT. A lot of our fans are sour on the hire, but I think he is going to do great things here.

Well, you certainly can't say O doesn't care about the program, the university, and the state. He has passion. There aren't a lot of great candidates out there. Jimbo was just jerking LSU (and FSU) around for what he could get out of FSU. Herman very well could be the next Sumlin. He did well with existing talent at UH, but regressed this year, and with more of his guys. I wasn't excited by Fedora or some of the others. Not at the cost they wanted to start. If we could have gotten someone at a lower price and they then earned the big money, OK. But they all wanted to money up from. O is willing to earn it and I'm OK with that. But he needs to keep Aranda, JOB 1! And he needs a good to great OC, even if it's that asshat tool Kiffen.

When LSU wins in recruiting, wins the SEC, and wins a NT; I want all you doubters and haters to confess that you were wrong. Nothing wrong with this hire. Geaux Coach Oeaux!

Ok people. Fisher and Herman used this as a power play to get more money elsewhere. Good for them. Believe this: Coach O already has Aranda locked down and probably Kiffin as well, as his contract expires with Bama at years end. Not to mention this will solidify our recruiting class, which is currently ranked #5 in the nation with more to come. Plus O will not meddle with the play calling like Miles did. Add a special teams coach and this team should compete for championships every year as usual. And haters, understand Alleva can't make any decisions final without the approval of the board, as well as the university president. We all love the Tigers and want the same thing. Give it a chance. I think we'll all be happy with the results!

Look people, we all want Herman and Fisher ahead of O, but it's clear at this point neither of them truly wants to coach at LSU. Instead of paying ridiculous amount of money to hire someone who only treats LSU as a temp stop or stepping stone, and having to worry about getting into a bidding war with another school every offseason, I would rather hire someone who truly cares about this program and appreciates this once in a life time opportunity as it is. Agree! Agree! Agree! Well said VesperiaLSU. This is the nation where everyone gets a second chance right. I worked many different jobs before finding my niche in insurance business. Was very successful and retired at age 47. Coach O too is on the second chapter of his life and hungry for success. Give him a chance guys.

What a concept.....hire a guy that truly wants the job and loves the place. Herman would've still been looking for the next job. He's a Meyer deciple people. Kick some arse coach o.
user avatar
lsusportsman289 months
Rather hire a guy who will win us a championship even if he's here a couple years, than hire a caveman who will tear our program to the ground.
user avatar
jayboy50489 months
And who is that guy you are referring to?? If it was Jimbo yes... Herman Emphatic No! Now there is a possibility that Herman may thrive in the Big12 bc they play absolutely no defense in that league but in the SEC Herman would have had no success against some of the better defenses in this league.
user avatar
HoarseComeSunday89 months
Hey, here's a thought: lets rally around Coach O who just had 2 solid road wins and be eager & excited. Herman may be overrated. Jimbo didnt want it. Meanwhile, our Coach O wants it and will hire the OC to get it done. Too much whining from u "fans". Probably the same ones that never make/stay for a game. Geaux Tigahs

L, some of you are ridiculous. "Worst day in LSU football history"..why because you didn't get the coach who lost to Memphis, Navy and SMU AMD finished third in bus divison?? As opposed to the guy who took over mid season with a team without direction and managed to salvage it. Oh was, he did it without a real OC, without an off season to lead practice, and with a bunch of snowflake fans. When he gets the OC everyone creams over these same "fans" will be on here yelling home run!! Who did you think we'd get?? Clearly your hearts were set on a coach who lost Navy, SMU and Memphis

Yeah, and Saban sucks because at Michigan State b/c he went 8-4. Herman is 6-0 vs Top 25 teams. How is LSU vs. the Top 25?
user avatar

Not disappointed at all. As long as Coach O gets a solid OC, LSU will be just fine.
user avatar
theBru89 months
But, he talks funny & gets confused with X & O's...not a mensa member, his wife is not chasing his black players...& the list keeps growing... Let's face it, he is our coach, so let's rally behind him and wish our team the best going forward...
user avatar
Herman is overrated. He didn't turn UH around himself. He did a good job of coaching some inherited talent. Now he's monetizing the success he built off someone else's talent. I think he'll fail at Texas. There are too many wealthy, meddling alumni that want to run the program. Texas is all about the money, and when you become all about the money and the vision dies, your program dies. Orgeron will do a great job.
user avatar

Already have him. Myles Brennan is committed to LSU and just broke every passing record in Mississippi. 3,500 yards, 40 TD's and 0 int's! senior season! Nuff said!

I love this. To all the snowflakes and whiners always holding their breaths, stomping their collective feet, and having temper tantrums because they feel we should be able to get ANY coach in the world to come to Baton Rouge! "It's a top five landing spot!" You people are idiots, and I love it. So much. Now you will all blame Alleva. It's always something. I actually don't mind the pick and think everyone should give Orgeron a chance. But they won't. Bc LSU fans are spoiled and unrealistic.
user avatar
Lexman189 months
Don't worry. The latest poll says 68% of Tigers fans want Coach O. That means only 32% will complain. But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I was on the fence with hiring Coach O as permanent HC but believe his passion, recruiting skills, energy and love of LSU and LA will make up with what a Jimbo or Herman brings to the table. I feel he has a great shot to get Kiffin of someone else as OC to come here. Sounds like they have room for giving Kiffin a push on his $1.5MM salary but don't forget Aranda and Ensminger (he deserves some recognition too). If Coach O doesn't work out Aranda or Kiffin will be ready to take the reins but don't count Coach O yet out to get us to the next level, we should all be excited a local man with the right skill set, attitude and tools gets the call and chance to take LSU to greater heights

I really hope O works out in the long run - but, I'm just not sure how long the "rah rah" mentality will sustain its self before it gets old with recruits and players. I love coach O, but I equate him to Butch Jones - he'll get some great players but will never put the whole thing together and win a championship...hope I eat my words in 2 or 3 years...
