As expected, LSU announced that tight end coach Steve Ensminger has been named the offensive coordinator for Tigers, replacing Matt Canada who was let go last week.

Ensminger will formally introduced as new OC by head coach Ed Orgeron at a press conference at noon CT on Thursday. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

Ensminger, widely regarded for his development of quarterbacks, spent the past eight years on the Tigers coaching staff from 2010-17. He served as offensive coordinator for the final eight games of the 2016 season when he called plays and directed an LSU offense that averaged 32 points and 465 total yards per game.

Ensminger elevated the Tigers offense into one of the top units in the Southeastern Conference over the final two months of 2016. LSU went 6-2 over the final eight games in 2016, scoring at least 35 points five times and topping the 500 yard mark on four occasions.

So what genius in the LSU athletic department decided it was a good idea to blow $3 million on Matt Canada last year when you had Steve Ensminger already on the payroll! TOTAL INCOMPETENCE!!!

This is why the "big name" the fan base craves is not always a fit. SE did a fine job the year before and should have been retained. MC was a dud.

Average organizations make average decisions which leads to more being average. This program doesn’t even want to be elite

I have no idea whether he’s the answer or not. All that I know is that I can’t for the life of me understand why, if he’s the answer, we didn’t just hire him in the first place instead of wasting seven figures and an entire season on someone else (Canada). This is incredibly hard to understand...

I feel like I just left a car dealership and got a car I didn't want, for $10k over invoice and all I got was paper floor mats. Clueless Joe and Special Ed make a dynamic team.

Steve's a great coach - but not an OC. Remember when that was the whole deal with hiring O? That he'd bring in the best coordinators? I guess everyone's forgotten by this point... we're just happy with mediocrity. By the way - Steve scored a total of 10 points against the only two real defenses we played in 2016. And that was with Fournette and Guice in the backfield.

Didn't he verbally say he did not want the job????

I kind of like having an ex quarterback as offensive coordinator. I will have to reserve further comments about his hire, after I see what he does.

Great coach, but not meant for this position. Whatever happened to "We will get the best coordinators?" Obvious now that was just a lie to get the HC job.

Good luck to Ensminger, Coach O and the Tigers.

Wow. This is painful. Alabama just won their 5th National Title in under 10 years and we just hired a DL coach to be HC and a TE coach to be OC coordinator.

Can we at least give the man a chance before bitching about everything? If it doesn't work out, he will be removed. Obviously the coaching staff trusts that he can do this. Steve has confidence that he can get it done or he would not have taken the job. Our o-line will be big and stout and should block well for Brennan. I foresee the offense looking similar to Georgia's when they had Aaron Murray. They beat us that year by the way.

I agree. When given the chance, he did a great job. Again this won't hurt recruiting this year because we have already signed everyone except chase. He has been there and Coach O trust him . For O, its sank or swim this year

Nothing against Ensminger, but I suspect they railroaded him into this. No real OC search that I can discern. It was a charade. And Canada wasn't given a chance to run the offense the way he wanted. Weak, insecure and paranoid leadership (except for Aranda)...that's what we have.

Rank 19 Pass - 3580 Rush - 2503 Points - 463 Now why didn't we hire an OC with a proven history of success when they are available, know how to coach and recruit today's athlete and put up points like the guys in the CFP hunt? BTW Avg age of those available OCs is 41. Lord Help Us!!
