As expected, LSU announced that tight end coach Steve Ensminger has been named the offensive coordinator for Tigers, replacing Matt Canada who was let go last week.

Ensminger will formally introduced as new OC by head coach Ed Orgeron at a press conference at noon CT on Thursday. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

Ensminger, widely regarded for his development of quarterbacks, spent the past eight years on the Tigers coaching staff from 2010-17. He served as offensive coordinator for the final eight games of the 2016 season when he called plays and directed an LSU offense that averaged 32 points and 465 total yards per game.

Ensminger elevated the Tigers offense into one of the top units in the Southeastern Conference over the final two months of 2016. LSU went 6-2 over the final eight games in 2016, scoring at least 35 points five times and topping the 500 yard mark on four occasions.

Steve is about to surprise everybody. The man knows his football and is a very good coach with years of experience in the SEC. He is a good match for Myles Brennan who is not a power spread type quarterback. Our offense will improve- book it.

I agree, let the snowflakes melt. He's got a full compliment of talent, the Qb play has to be exceptional though, and if that happens, WE ARE COMING. Congrats Steve, I went to school with his rotating QB David Woodley back in the mid 70's.

Average organizations make average decisions which leads to more being average. This program doesn’t even want to be elite

Can we at least give the man a chance before bitching about everything? If it doesn't work out, he will be removed. Obviously the coaching staff trusts that he can do this. Steve has confidence that he can get it done or he would not have taken the job. Our o-line will be big and stout and should block well for Brennan. I foresee the offense looking similar to Georgia's when they had Aaron Murray. They beat us that year by the way.

I agree. When given the chance, he did a great job. Again this won't hurt recruiting this year because we have already signed everyone except chase. He has been there and Coach O trust him . For O, its sank or swim this year

Steve's a great coach - but not an OC. Remember when that was the whole deal with hiring O? That he'd bring in the best coordinators? I guess everyone's forgotten by this point... we're just happy with mediocrity. By the way - Steve scored a total of 10 points against the only two real defenses we played in 2016. And that was with Fournette and Guice in the backfield.

Everybody crying about the OC.....what we really need is a real QUARTEBACK!!!! Then the OC will look like a genius.....how come we can’t get one?

LSU should hold a better staff then this but a chance should be given. Thank the lord this happened after early signing period. Recruiting will take an automatic hit.

I'd like to know how many home breds are on the Bama and Georgia staffs. I haven't a clue, but I'd wager it's pretty damn close to zero. I have nothing against Ensminger, but I do take exception with an AD habitually not taking the initiative and not looking past his nose!! He appears to be mentally lazy. We need fresh blood on the sidelines whenever we get the chance. This definitely smells like Les Miles - Part II. I don't like it.

Going to have to learn how to do a press conference and get on the computer. Hey Steve, technology is your friend!

So what genius in the LSU athletic department decided it was a good idea to blow $3 million on Matt Canada last year when you had Steve Ensminger already on the payroll! TOTAL INCOMPETENCE!!!

This is why the "big name" the fan base craves is not always a fit. SE did a fine job the year before and should have been retained. MC was a dud.
