Head coach Brian Kelly is expecting veteran defensive tackle Jacobian Guillory to have a big season in 2024 as a physical leader in the middle of LSU's defensive line.

Kelly said that while Guillory has always been physically strong, his technique has improved and will show on the stat sheet this season:
quote:

"He's been our best defensive tackle. And our most consistent, starting with the tail end of last year, and that continued through the spring and into preseason camp," Kelly said.

"He's extremely strong, physically strong. He can hold the point and plays with great leverage and technique."

"He's really come along incredibly well in terms of the ability to use his hands, disengage, and find the football. It's one thing to have strength at the point of attack. But if you can't find the football, you just hold point."

"What he's been able to do is use great strength, and now he's controlling the blocker and finding the football."

"I think he's going to make a lot of tackles. He's going to be someone that show up a lot in the tackle sheet. And that says a lot for a defensive tackle."

This game and likely all our games but this one in particular is going to be won by the team who wants it more than the other and is prepared mentally to take 1 vs 1 loses. You can’t win every battle so which team will make the other mentally give in and admit defeat. Sure there are teams and certain games that just aren’t for you but I think the talent is there and we will have to be the better mentally prepared team to take occasional losses in the battles.

Guillory has always been strong (was a powerlifter in high school), but he's been very immature mentally and had a lack of technical prowess. I think being THE GUY, and having a true DL coach like Bo Davis on him is going to turn him into a draft pick. He has the size and talent, but now he needs the production. Show out big man.
