ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit talked about LSU's early-season struggles on this week's episode of the CFB Podcast with Herbie, Pollack & Neghandi.

Herbstreit talked about all the former players and coaches that are no longer on the team and how it could be impacting the current players. Per 247Sports:
quote:

"I think it's a combination of that, along with that they lost so much," Herbstreit said. "Joe Brady, Dave Aranda, (former quarterback) Joe Burrow, all the skill other than (junior wide receiver Terrace) Marshall. It's been widely publicized everything they lost on the defensive side of the ball. (Junior wide receiver) Ja'Marr Chase opts out in the midst of this pandemic. It almost feels like the body language of the players remaining playing are looking over a fence at all the guys that left, like, 'Wow, you guys got to leave?'

"And that's what it feels like. It just feels like they're like, 'You expect us to stay here when everyone left?' It doesn't feel like, 'We've been backed into a corner and we'll show them.' They just look like, beyond Xs and Os, it just seems like there's more going on behind the scenes — behind closed doors — than maybe we realize."
Herbstreit also talked about LSU's issues on defense, calling out Derek Stingley Jr. who played through injured ankle last week at Missouri. Per SDS:
quote:

“They just don’t look like it’s 11 guys that want to run to the ball and hold up their end of the bargain,” Herbstreit said on on Monday’s episode of the CFB Podcast with Herbie, Pollack & Neghandi. “And when I watched some of these SEC defenses, I just look at guys like Stingley right now — who’s a great talent — he has zero interest in tackling, zero interest for being accountable in that regard. And if your best players are doing that, that’s going to filter down.

Everything he said is exactly right. They have no passion That's why I said I'd sit whoever doesn't want to play and give the young guys their chance Prepare for next yr I expected more from stingley

Sometimes the truth hurts...but, in defense of the defense, the different scheme has some liability here, but, 45 by mizzou? C'mon man!

Has anyone thought about Bo coming in with a new defensive scheme, and having some veterans and young players trying to read and react. The out of gap and position, are in every play. There will be a learning curve.

With no installation time in the spring. Learn on the fly in the fall for three weeks. How many would be good at a difficult job if you were trained for three weeks and then thrown into a fire? No one here would be flawless.

Maybe Bo has a 4 year plan like Tepper.

Herbie is spot on. Defense looked like they didn’t want to be there at all. Offense has been clicking despite the poor red zone, lack of 3rd down conversions, and sometimes head scratching play calls. Stingley looked like he didn’t care despite the ankle.

You’re a fricking moron if you think he’s ‘spot on’ about stingley

Stingley played as seriously as Ben Simmons did.

Hangover the truth is the truth, I know Stingley was trying to pay through an ankle injury last Saturday and because of that he wasn't that interested in sticking his should into anybody. I admire his guts but the liability is you are hurting the team in being limited to the point you won't nail someone.

Stingley had a fantastic open field tackle vs a Vandy tightend.

“I just look at guys like Stingley...he has zero interest in tackling, zero interest for being accountable in that regard." Herbstreit has zero interest in being accountable. Stingley was injured. I'm just a casual fan and I saw that. Why doesn't Herbstreit know that? Know what the frick you're talking about before calling someone else out. Stingley played hurt. Herbie would have cried like a bitch if he was hurt.

If you decide ur healthy enuf to play then u cant use the “But I was hurt” excuse when u get burned or when u pull an OLE’ & let guys run past you rather than tackling them! DS isn’t the ONLY one, Clark, Flott & Ricks all took turns LOAFING instead of running down guys to help tackle them! It’s been pretty SICKENING to watch to be honest!

He’s not wrong. Stingley looks like Deion out there. Rather run them out of bounds than hit them.
