Update: Arik Gilbert is officially in the transfer portal.

LSU freshman tight end Arik Gilbert, who opted out of the season after the Alabama loss, sent out a couple of tweets over the weekend to announce that he was entering his name into the transfer portal.

The former 5-star prospect from Marietta, Ga. ended up deleting those tweets, adding confusion to the situation.

On Tuesday morning, Ed Orgeron joined 104.5 ESPN's "Off The Bench" and said that Gilbert "entered the transfer portal" but that they are still in contact with his family and hope that he comes back.

A new report from Sports Illustrated recruiting analyst John Garcia, Jr. claims that Gilbert has still not officially entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Man, I understand people being hard on this kid. But I was in my mid 20's before I got my ish together. Quitting isn't a good thing, but maybe he's going through some serious things behind the scenes that we obviously don't know about. I think the mature thing to do is respect whatever the kid wants to do, but hope he decides to do it at LSU.

Difference is, when we were in our 20s, there was no social media around for kids to blast all their "decisions" on. These kids love and want all this technology but if they don't know how to use it, it bites them hard.

Thank God we didn’t have social media when I was in high school.

With all the harsh and dark undertones surrounding Gilberts situation, I no longer harbor ill-will toward him or the decision he made. I honestly believe he’s going through some type of serious, life-altering situation that is far more important and pressing than football. Count me in the group that wishes Arik Gilbert nothing but the best now and in the future!!

Agree - However, LSU does have Tight Ends just as good as Arik who are chomping to prove what they can do; so I don't see a big loss in talent !!!

It is clearly Big loss of talent, but you just simply have to have the “next man up” mentality!

Get him back to LSU only if he wants to be a TIGER. and work hard to be the best TE he can be----I would love to truly see his talents in Death Valley in the lights with his abilities. I thick leaving is the worst decision this young man will ever make in his life...
