Huffington Post Sports statistician Paul Bessire predicts that Melvin Gordon and the Wisconsin Badgers will beat LSU in Saturday's season opener in Houston.

Here is some of what he had to say:
quote:

Whereas Wisconsin has to overhaul its defensive front seven, LSU is turning over its skill position players. Head coach Les Miles has already said that at least two quarterbacks will get time within the game, neither of which (like McEvoy) has started at this level before. The starting running backs and wide receivers will all be either freshmen or sophomores. With lack of experience at the skill positions for LSU and a reboot of the defensive front seven for Wisconsin (a net wash), plus elite secondaries and two great offensive lines, this game is incredibly close in the numbers. The lone difference (assuming true neutral field) is Wisconsin's proven star play maker in Melvin Gordon. Incoming freshman for LSU Leonard Fournette will get buzz going into the game, but look for Gordon to shine the brightest and end the contest on top.
quote:

According to 50,000 games played by the Predictalator, Wisconsin wins on average 51.4 percent of the time and by an average score of 30-28. As five point underdogs winning outright in the predicted upset (our closest projected game of the day on Saturday), Wisconsin covers the spread 58.1 percent of the time, which would warrant a $60 wager from a normal $50 player. The OVER (50) is actually the strongest play in this game and one of the stronger plays of the entire week. It covers 61.3 percent of the time, enough to justify an $94 play from a normal $50 player. A total of seven picks cover greater than 60 percent in the simulations this week.

First of all, how does replacing your entire front 7 and lining up against a veteran LSU o line result in a "net wash"?
Second, the only two "elite" defensive secondaries on the field Saturday night will be LSU's first and second strings.

This dude did his utmost to predict a Wiscy win here.

That article is nothing but an infomercial for the author's webpage which, of all things, sell's sports picks.

It's no more sports journalism than a Ginsu Infomercial is a cooking show.

It sure doesn't take much to be an analyst these days. This guy might have said 2 correct stats out of every ten. For instance, there weren't two elite secondaries in that game. LSU's best 12 DBs were better than their very best DB easily.

I could go on and on about this writer's stupidity but I will just end with a thought... What would that score had looked like if the two current NFL rookie DTs who left early last year would be seniors on the field that night and what would the score have looked like if the other four current LSU DTs who did not make the trip would have been there. Yes, LSU was missing 6 DTs that night if we include early departures to the NFL so talking smack about how Wiscy ran over LSU is.

The LSU Tigers would totally bitch slapp teams like Wisconsin if they would get to keep their players for four and five seasons but I guess that it is more competitive this way. Fans from around the nation should take time to admire what the Tiger's coaching staff can do in terms of developing young players into SEC and NFL starters.
