A panel of ten writers from the Houston Chronicle recently put together a list of the top 20 college football programs in the country and pegged LSU at No. 9.

Alabama, Ohio State, and Texas were ranked as the top three programs.

Here are the factors that the panel took into consideration to come up with their rankings.
quote:

1. Facilities.
2. History (recent and past).
3. Money (that a school spends - and not on recruits).
4. Recruiting (the area from which to draw).
5. Conference.
6. Attendance/game day atmosphere/campus geography.
7. Brand name/prestige.
8. Exposure/TV.
9. NFL draftees.
10. Coaching (stability).
Here's what they had to say about LSU:
quote:

9. LSU (68)

By itself, witnessing "Callin' Baton Rouge" in a raucous Tiger Stadium propels the program into the top 20. LSU's success in the past 15 years (with two of its three national titles coming in that span) and the Cajun-flavored tailgating scene shoves it into the top 10.
Here is the Top 10:

1. Alabama (146)
2. Ohio State (133)
3. Texas (100)
4. Oklahoma (97)
4. Southern Cal (97)
6. Michigan (90)
6. Notre Dame (90)
8. Clemson (78)
9. LSU (68)
10. Texas A&M (59)

You can see the Houston Chronicle's complete list here.

Do you think No. 9 is the right ranking for the Tigers? If not, where would you place them on this list?

Tamu should not be on the list. LSU Should arguably be higer, but not too much else to gripe about.

Texas A&M at 9 is fricking hilarious. Really trying to appeal to their audience there lol

and Clemson is a joke in their position as well...LSU is probably about right.

Texas is a rich program in a great football state in a cool town...pathetic that they have been unable to capitalize.

frickin LOL. I can think of at least one program in the western division more deserving of that 10 spot than A&M.

Texas and ND are too high if you're weighing recent results.

Recent results certainly have weight, but it's not the only thing being weighed.

If you look over the past 20 years this list is pretty accurate (maybe move Texas lower). Outside of Texas A&M, that is a complete joke and is only in the list because college station is 30min away from Houston (where the article is from).

Going to a Texas game is like going to funeral. All about being seen.

Makes me puke a bit, but Auburn should be on that list ahead of A&M at very least.

LSU should be top 5, based on the criteria above. Tiger Stadium, tailgating second to none, and Mike The Tiger roaming in his habitat, makes for a great game experience. As for recent results, LSU has won 2 NC’s since OU, ND, Michigan and certainly A&M. As for the Longhorns, it’s been a sinking ship for several years on the field, but their massive revenues they generate with the Longhorn Network and so forth, always put them high on any list.

1 thru 6 is spot on. After Notre dame u can make an argument for about 10 teams to occupy number 7 and beyond.

I don't understand how Texas gets No. 3, the only thing got going for them right now is Money with a cap M. But I feel LSU should be ahead of Mich, Notre Dame and Clemson at No. 6.

But if they lose to Notre Dame in another bowl game my list will change. Lol

Gotta put Florida on there. Notre Dame being so high is a joke.

Based on the factors they listed ND should easily be in the top 10. Brand, history, Money, exposure they do very well in
