Georgia Southern head coach Chad Lunsford announced Friday that starting quarterback Shai Werts and backup defensive end Quan Griffin have both been suspended from all football-related activities following offseason arrests.

Werts was arrested for speeding and possession of cocaine in South Carolina on Wednesday during a traffic stop.

Werts started all 13 games for the Eagles in 2018, passing for 987 yards, 10 touchdowns, with zero interceptions and also added 908 yards on the ground with 15 rushing touchdowns. He led the team to a 10-3 record with a win in the Camellia Bowl over Eastern Michigan.

Griffin was arrested in Florida for a domestic dispute.

Griffin played in all 13 games last season for the Eagles, with one start. He finished the season with 22 tackles, three sacks and led the team with three forced fumbles.

They had zero chance anyway. You could have put Michael Vick in his prime back there and it wouldn't have mattered.

That team is a lot better than you think! Obviously it will be a much larger task for them now without their QB.

Can’t take anyone lightly- but this shouldn’t have any bearing on the outcome.
