Freshman Safety JaCoby Stevens Moves To The Offensive Side Of The Ball

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron addressed the media after the first day of fall camp Monday and said that highly touted freshman safety JaCoby Stevens has moved over to the offense and will play wide receiver.

Stevens played both offense and defense in high school and was rated the No. 1 safety in the country for the class of 2017.

When the safety position at lsu is so hard to play at you have a 5 star leave bcuz he didnt think he'd get playing time ( saivion smith ) and the nations no.1 safety switches to receiver. DBU

Delpit and Harris are just more natural safeties. If you have a guy this big and fast who can catch like Stevens can why wouldn't you move him to offense. That's where you score most of your points.

If you go back and look at his camps, the opening, and the all star game then you wouldn't think it's so crazy. He was also listed as an athlete for a good reason. That is he's really a talent at the WR position. Physically ready to play the position and he's a physical type of player. I mean he played defense so let's see how many CBs or safeties push him around lmao. O is going to assemble a championship team to the dismay of many. GT

This is good for the team. Our talent will be on the field not on the bench. You can only play so many safeties. Freshmen don't start at LSU because there's no one else to play the position. It means he can ball. I'm excited about the move.

I would feel better with him playing safety. But if he can excel at WR and help the team win, am all for it. Our starting middle LB is a former 4* RB, so...

Pretty foolish to move him over to WR under the older ?ground and pound" style offense. This move tells me one thing... we're going to have a diverse offense.

Hopefully this will make up for missing out on the top receivers that cost Craig and Juluke their jobs. Why not try it? We're set at safety.

He is Big, God Given, That Cannot Be Coached! He is Fast, That's God Given, That Cannot be Coached! Great Reflexes Because of Hands and Eyes Equal Great Co-Ordination That is Not Coach-able, That is God Given, So, if He has so Much God Given Talent, He Will only Use a Little of The Coaches Time so That the Coaching can Be Spent Where it is Need The Most. Play Him Where He Fits in The Most, The Best and Make The Team Greater, After-all isn't That What Fall Camp is All About? The More God Given Talent The Team Has on The Field, The Quicker The Reflexes Will Flex and The Faster The Play gets Off The Ground, By the Time the Defense Reacts it will be Too Late To Be Stopped. He will also Pressure The DBs in Practice To Learn Where The Weakness will be so That can also be Corrected by the End of Camp. The Less Coaching The More Time cxan Be Spent Watching Videos of The Team You Play First There is No Second Game until after the 1st Game has Been Played, One Game At A Time, Equals, OneTeamOneHeartBeat OneWinnerOneChampion at Season's End The Hardware Will Be Distributed, Only The Champions Survive! He's moved to the F position which is a TE/WR/FB/RB position. The last poster said it "diverse" which is what he brings to the table, not to mention he can catch, jump, is big, and fast. Match up problems when you send this guy out in the flats, on wheel routes, on the jet sweep, can use as a decoy or hand off. Idk if Louisiana has the athletics QBs this year but we could recruit one of those guys to take the jet sweep and turn it into a half back pass. Can't wait to see what Canada does with this offense. One thing is certain, he's not scared to use anyone at anytime for anything. He will throw to WRs that haven't caught balls, he will hand it off to a TE or FB. Hell he even has reverses with OLman so I'm excited to see what we have coupled with an Aranda type of defense. I think that was another big reason Canada came here to LSU, he knows we play offense so he can get even more creative if we can build a big lead. GT

I kinda saw this coming when I saw him catch the football. He was like a WR playing safety. I don't think it's a knock on any of our WRs either, I just think he's that good. Huge RZ threat and will make our WR position deep. I like the move. He could always switch back as well but I think he's going to score lots of points and be too valuable on offense to move. GT
