Former LSU defensive lineman Marcus Spears and current SEC Network College Football analyst had a very strong message directed to Tigers fans on Monday.

Spears, who played at LSU from 2001 to 2004 under Nick Saban said that LSU has become a "middle-of-the-pack, very average college football program."
quote:

"We aren't what we think we are," Spears said. "We’ve become a mediocre football team and a middle-of-the-pack, very average college football program. We have to stop believing that we are one of those teams that at the end of the year is going to be standing tall because it's been proven."

"A 61 percent winning percentage over the last five years? We’ve got to do better," Spears said. “We are no longer a championship team."

Other than his math. We aren't a play off team, but the avg is 71%

I Think his average meant SEC winning percentage but I could be wrong

Les Miles put us on the downward spiral. Orgeron is not the caliber we need to get us trending upward. End of the day, Alleva is the one that should be held accountable.

He's speaking the truth. Haven't been close to championship level in 6 seasons now. Nothing but a bunch of mid-tier bowl appearances since 1/9/12.

First way to deal with a problem is realizing u have one. True statement by former players will maybe help us do just that a little sooner rather that sticking our heads in the sand. The fact our lines on both sides are so thin is the biggest concern I'm having right now.

Until LSU has stud OL/DL and a play maker QB it would be difficult.

Maybe that message should be directed to the coaching staff and administration.

I'm more concerned about the mental health of anyone that has thought we are championship team in the last 5-6 years

What's wrong with what he said? The only way to progress is to admit your failures!

Not championship level right now, but not average either. Still have great talent throughout most of the lineup. So far, Canada and O have not been all we had hoped for.

Would you consider Auburn or TAMU average? They are routinely in the top 10-15 of recruiting. They routinely produce 8 win seasons. How in the hell do you not consider LSU average when they have top 5 talent and routinely finish with 8-9 win seasons? Face it, we are an average team until we can prove otherwise.

Nick has both of our lines in Tuscaloosa, for years to come.

We will be lucky to stay average with Orgeron, Alleva and FKing running the show!!!

Lmao... NAIL meet Hammer... got to agree with Spears... some delusional fans think LSU ranks right up there with the ELITE college programs when they don't even sniff their jocks... it wasn't like every elite coach was knocking the door down to coach here... one used LSU to get more money and the other a stepping stone to his dream job... LSU is an "ain't".... the rabid fans think LSU is an average team if they don't win a NC every year...4 and 5 star athletes in high school means nothing at the college level....LSU has been playing average bowl games for the last 6 years... this problem didn't start after Saturday's loss...

Exactly right. The mess Miles left is the mess that's having to be cleaned up. It takes a little time. I am for LSU all the way!

He's right we don't have a monster Oline, monster Dline, and our QB play has sucked butt for years. Preach it Marcus preach it!

This comment should be posted on team's bulletin board for them to read every fricking day.... maybe they will respond and do something about such comments

You cant knock the man for telling the truth, we are an average team that has the capabilities of possibly only winning 7-8 games....Or we can turn it around Orgeron can light a fire under these guys and discipline them to stop making so many penalties and we can go 10-2 max but with the lack of leadership and all the freshman on the field i dont see it happening.
