During the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday, Frank Wilson was specifically asked what has gone "sideways" or wrong with quarterback Garrett Nussmeier this season.

Wilson explained that it goes beyond just Nussmeier...
quote:

"I think as a team, we haven't performed and done the things that we need to do offensively, Wilson said. "I think Garrett is not isolated as someone who's gone sideways."

"I think that we have not done things necessarily best for us as an offense in a multitude of ways, and he's just one of many that have not played up to their desire or their want to. And that's at every position, whether it's the receivers, the tight ends, the offensive line, running backs, or the quarterback, included."

"Collectively, we need to continue to strive to do the things necessary to have success. And so there's a tremendous want to. He does some really good things, and there are other things that we need to continue to build on and build around him to have the success that we need both quarterbacks to play well in this game."
It's no secret that LSU's offense has struggled. Here are some stats so far this season:

Total Offense ranks 104th out of 134 (341.8 YPG)
Passing Offense ranks 57th out of 134 (240.8 YPG)
Rushing Offense ranks 125th out of 134 (101.0 YPG)
Scoring Offense ranks 97th out of 134 (23.7 PPG)

Garrett Nussmeier's stats through nine games this season:
194 for 288 (67.4 CMP%)
1,927 yards
12 TDs
5 INTs
72.7 QBR (28th)

LSU will face Arkansas Saturday, who ranks 8th in total offense (484.4 YPG) and 21st in scoring offense (35.4 PPG).

The #1 problem on this team is and has always been the OL struggles. It's led to a piss poor running game, a QB that plays scared, and has given momentum away at costly times in games with pre snap penalties. That unit has never gelled and it's the catalyst for everything else.

So these 3/4/5 star O linemen have suddenly lost their talent? I think not. Poor coaching, poor scheme.

They start with the O-line play. Taht is obvious on almost every play.

I can't believe the Pass Comp % is 67%. It felt so much worse than that. Half of that is screens though. The root of all of this is the OL. A good passing OL last season yielded a great passing game. Now you can't run the ball or hold a pocket for 1.5 sec.

How many of those completions are screens or with 5 yards of the line.

Agreed…a 67% completion percentage is not bad at all. We should be winning games at that completion with our defense.

Lots of 3 yard check downs and 3rd and 7 plus.

No shite dick Tracy! Now do your job and get rid of the person responsible.

Come on, the kid is afraid to throw the ball more than 5 yards down the field, he’s playing scared. We might as well be slanting teams to death

Sure, the offensive issues go beyond Garrett Nussmeier, but they definitely start with him.

It all starts at the offensive line. If they aren’t blocking and opening up running gaps, you can put Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Emmitt Smith on that squad and they wouldn’t be any better.

Like BK he doesn't understand the real problem is his QB. Good luck with your offense if you are going to play #18 as your QB.

Yeah I mean they threw the backup out there fist time in weeks middle of the Bama game and he made some impressive throws and a great scramble. Should be starting VB from here out
