Ed Orgeron spoke to the media after practice on Thursday and said that linebacker Mike Jones will definitely play this Saturday vs. McNeese State.

Jones, a transfer from Clemson, is still learning how to play inside in Daronte Jones' defense but can help the Tigers in coverage, Orgeron said.

He should have played against UCLA. He is a cover lb. Mike. See that long haired tight end, stay with him, wherever he is or goes, stay with that man.

Totally agreed. The biggest head scratcher on the defensive sub portion of the game. Put him in there when the players that are in aren't able to keep up. Not seeing him or Kiner on offense was the most frustrating thing.

Sounds like he needs to play OLB or safety

Should’ve been starting week 1…it’s on the coaches if they couldn’t find a role for him

They had no roles for those who started!

They haven’t got him running face first into linemen yet like the other LBs?

What a huge mistake he made transferring to LSU.

Not a LB I know, but why didn't major burns play last week? Obviously I'm missing something here

He did

He got picked on on that first UCLA touchdown. He is 80% talk and 20% reliability. He is slow in space and has trouble recovering if out of place, not a good tackler.

So frustrating to Watch top teams with Lb's cover, fill gaps and make plays then watch LSu's group look lost, get blocked and give up big play after big play. Yet Ed hires a LB coach from Miami that was fired same with OLine. Hires a guy that has coached at 4 different schools in last few years.

The offense that is Max Johnson fault. He has understand what he is working with on the offensive line and help himself. He should know they are still learning their assignments and He is going to have to tuck it and run on certain occasions due to the limited time he has in the pocket. Also it is better to deliver the hit than receive the hit from the blindside in the pocket standing in the pocket. Joe Burrow had the same problem and realized he had to help his line out by running until they got the blocking schemes down. Which led them to be one of the best O Lines by the end of the season.

Defense is easy to fix if they just listen to the palycall and follow the instructions given them. I saw three slants by the TE that could have been prevented. Prior to the snap the defender was told by the LB to watch the TE coming across and all three times he ignored the TE which lead to touchdowns

So this defense is new for everyone. If the guy hasn’t learned it to where he can play, then why is he on the team? Just tired of all of the excuses.

He's still learning to play inside linebacker doofus. He's been playing a LB/safety hybrid at Clemson. He's mostly played in nickel package and in coverage.

90% of you morons have no damn clue what y’all are saying! One single player can change the entire defense, ask Honey Badger. Sorry but Ed O isn’t going anywhere for at least another 3 years and within that 3 years he will very likely have another great season which will extend his LSU career again so all you O miserable people are going to be miserable for a while lol. Reply was right, it isn’t an excuse, the guy came here to learn the middle backer position so he’s been learning that position and isn’t quite ready but they can find a spot for him in passing situations. That’s all he’s saying. Probably should have let him play last week when they were struggling.

"still learning" no way he could be worse at covering than what we saw last weekend

“Still learning to play inside” lol 18 doesn’t know his left from right and hits the completely wrong gap 80% of the time good luck the other 20% of the time because he’s probably missing the tackle this dude Mike Jones so called “nickel hybrid” cant get on the field vs UCLA to stop those TE drag routes on 3rd and forever…shows ceo knows less about football than a 12 year old playing madden

The inside linebacker was the one getting burnt by the TE slants last week against that sissy blue team. The Outside linebackers told the inside linebacker three times to cover the TE on the slant against UCLA and all three times (Like a deer in headlights)he let the TE get behind him on the slants which led to three scores. All three times they had the camera on the Outside LB telling ILB the TE was going to slant and pick him up. Apparent The OLB new the play but just couldn't get the inside LB to listen.

18 Played well. He had 14 tackles. For being completely wrong, he sure gets the tackle a lot. Baskerville was a major issue.

I think that he's confused with the defense because he came from such a successful one and cant grasp how unprepared this defense is over one that works.

Maybe he brought a copy of the playbook

A linebacker that can tackle and cover in space, good to hear.

Embarrassing to see our defensive coordinator put our slow LB's on UCLA receivers and have them run away from them. Aranda would never have done that. Play nickel more to prevent that, rush 3 guys and drop 8. But get hats on opposing receivers who can stay with them. Shameful!

I bet he plays wing versus inside LB to address pass defense.
