Ed Orgeron Says They Are Still Working On Hiring Ryan Nielsen, “The Deal Is Not Done Yet”
by TD Staff ReporterJanuary 19, 2021

Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports
UPDATE: Ryan Nielsen To Remain With The Saints.
Ed Orgeron joined 104.5 ESPN's "Off The Bench" Tuesday morning and commented on the report that LSU is working on a deal to hire New Orleans Saints defensive line coach as the Tigers new defensive coordinator.
It was originally reported Monday afternoon that LSU was finalizing a deal to make Nielsen the Tigers' new defensive coordinator, as stated by NFL reporter Jane Slater.
Later on Monday evening, Slater tweeted that the potential hiring hit a snag by the Saints not signing off on the move.

So it sounds like he isn’t interviewing him either of the Saints haven’t signed off and Ed keeps leaking info. By saying we need to be patient he was telling everyone his “guy” was still coaching in the nfl

Why can’t they just make it read: 1. Can’t take a job with any NFL team other than NO for the next 3 years. 2. Has the option of leaving LSU at any point during his time with the team to joint NO as Def Coordinator.
I mean it seems like they don’t want to get John Brady’d again and they probably want him as DC if Allen takes a HC gig. Let him go out and get his feet wet and then bring him back if needed per contract. I’m sure he wants at NFL gig in the long run anyway.

Who knew John Brady coached for the Saints as well? You learn something new every day. I do miss the early 2000s of when he was the head basketball coach @ LSU. Stromile Swift and Jabari Smith, FTMFW.

How does breaking a contract in the NFL work? I mean, is LSU able to just pay the Saints a sum of money to break his contract with them? Surely they can't prevent Nielsen from trying to advance in his career. All contracts can be broken with some sort of penalty. If Nielsen is that worth it for us, let's pay the penalty for him and be done with it.

No... They’re trying to deal with the Saints not initially letting Nielsen out of his contract.
