During SEC Media Days this week in Hoover, Alabama, head coach Ed Orgeron provided some weight updates for LSU nose tackle Tyler Shelvin and quarterback Myles Brennan.

Shelvin is listed at 362-pounds on LSU's website but is down to a "slim 340-pounds," which is the goal for him, according to Orgeron.

Shelvin and true freshman Apu Ika will compete at nose tackle in fall camp.

Orgeron added that Brennan is up to 212-pounds, which is significantly higher than his listed weight on LSU's website at 183.

This guy has backbone. He has waited his turn and will succeed because he has sat and learned.

Considering none of that 212lbs should be fat, thats pretty solid. Some outside backers weigh that, and that weight is more than 90% of defensive backs including safeties.

He does not look to be much over 195 in the spring game. It his film there it just doesn’t appear as though the light has clicked on yet, he doesn’t seem to put the ball in the best spots but he spins it with a quick release. He had to let it go quickly because of pressure, it will be interesting to see him in a real game with better protection. LSU has high hopes for him in 2020 and 2021, hopefully the game starts slowing down for him soon.

I am confident Brennan will make a believer out of you yet Vern. You forget Brennan threw for 16,000 yards in the same style offense LSU just installed. I don’t care if he did that during gym period that’s a lot of completed passes. Brennan will rewrite the passing records at LSU before he’s done.

You sound like a guy I work with who doesn't understand how metabolisms affect weight gain.

Brennan still gets one more year to fill out that frame and he’s gonna wreck shite up. He’ll be more than ready to step in this year and kick ass. if Joe needs a breather. Excited to see what an in shape Shelvin can do.

weight isn't the reason Brennan isn't playing. My lord, people, if Brennan had "it" he'd be playing, regardless of weight. Weight only affects the ability to take a pounding through a long season. It's got nothing to do with reading defenses, accuracy, poise, pocket presence, leadership, etc. -- you know, all the stuff a good QB needs.

@atltiger I used to think the same thing, seeing how so many freshman QBs are coming into big time jobs and winning. However, I like to think that the only reason Brennan isn't starting is because Joe looks as good as advertised. That would be the best case scenario IMO.

Brennan's gonna get to play and LSU needs two interchange-able quarterbacks at all times. Both with experience.
