Matt Bush-USA TODAY Sports
Ed Orgeron joined 104.5 ESPN's "Off The Bench" Tuesday morning and was asked about the report that LSU is hiring Vikings DB coach Daronte Jones to be the team's new defensive coordinator.

Orgeron said that he spoke with Dave Aranda who recommended Jones and was impressed with the interview process but nothing is finalized yet.

Orgeron added that if Jones was hired he would coach the safeties and they would look to hire a new linebacker coach and defensive line coach, hopefully by next Tuesday. LSU's safeties were previously coached by Bill Busch who was let go this offseason.

Jones was a defensive back coach under Aranda at Wisconsin in 2015. The Badgers led the nation with just seven passing touchdowns allowed that season and their passing defense ranked second in the Big Ten and seventh nationally, allowing just 173.2 pass yards per game, according to Jones' bio on Vikings.com.

So LSU still doesn't have a DC

Didn’t O throw Dave under the bus and start talking crap about the guy during the season last year? Is that the sort of guy you would take recommendations from especially if you bad mouthed him the previous year? Makes perfect sense.

Because the way Ed said it and was his meaning is nothing like how people portray it.

So now it is somehow wrong to get input from other coaches? How the Hell do some of you think the interview and hiring process is done? I guess O should use a crystal ball or Tarot Cards?

Is it common for a DC not to hire his own people? This sounds ate up and I aint trying to be a downerantard.

No, DC's do not hire their own people. Sometimes they may be able to bring an assistant, but they do not get their own staff, at least I have not seen this at the college level.

Everything sounds ate up to some of you people. I swear some LSU fans don’t have any clues as to what is even happening yet and they’ll lose their minds only to agree with the outcome later. You don’t think when they interview that they look at tape and ask them about scenarios? Go over recruiting, ask them what they bring to the table as for as connections. They go over all this shite. But carry on. Defense is defense people. The players were young last year. It wasn’t Pelini’s scheme. It was the mix of his scheme and the players wanting to play hard for him in his scheme that was the problem. And they were just young. This guy will probably look a lot better because of the experience those guys got under Pelini. Some kids don’t like to be yelled at by a coach they don’t respect yet. They didn’t deal with Pelini face to face much so they couldn’t get that bond to allow for authority later. It is what it is but Pelini would have been fine. I know y’all love to hate him but it wasn’t all him. Anyway on to the new and hopefully this guy does a better job earning that respect.

Settle down, KarenBengal... It's a case of ignorance on my part that Canebreak answered. Hope you feel better.

Hasn't been finalized means it's imminent. And it also sounds like they're about to lose Raymond.

What word there even hinted at losing Raymond

Raymond is fine, and his focus is coaching corners. The rumor has been Raymond does not want to be a DC as of now. The rumor goes back to when Aranda was hired.

You people and Corey. Corey does not want to be a DC. He makes 650k coaching corners and recruiting. Why be a DC and deal with all the crap. Look who got fired, Pellini, Corey still here and killing it.
