LSU head coach Ed Orgeron appeared on "Sports Talk" with Bobby Hebert & Kristian Garic last Thursday and spoke about the quarterback competition between Myles Brennan and Max Johnson. Per SI.com:
quote:

“We in the locker room, we know who the best guy is,” said Orgeron. “Everybody knows. It’s gonna work itself out and we’re going to let them play. The competition is gonna be fierce, it’s fierce every day. Both of those guys, along with Garrett (Nussmeier), are having great summers. I think it’s gonna work itself out. I think it’s gonna be obvious. Game week going into UCLA we’re gonna name our starter, but if we can do it before, we can. It’s all going to be a feel thing.”

Who do you think Orgeron will name as the starter for Week 1 at UCLA?

If that's the case, they should both go to his office together and ask which one is ahead so the other can make plans accordingly.

Why in the world would the head coach of a major football program make such an asinine comment to the media? Just say the competition is close and won't be decided until the opening week? Does this man really have the brains to run this program?

One is boat riding The other is working out with his NFL dad One looks a little hefty The other is lean and adding good weight I’m going with what my eyes are telling me ... one guy is looking like a leader and the other is looking comfortable MJ is your QB people

It has to be Max. He has the intangibles like Joe Burrow that you can't teach. It would be a mistake starting Myles, he is too slow and he will get hurt again in the SEC. He can't elude the pass rushers. He is a great passer in practice but not tough enough.

Link to an article about Myles being atop 10 qb in the nation for 2021!

Wow, top 10, that's pretty good. Thus, that means Max is also top 10 but even better than Myles. Cool.

Max not even mentioned ??

It will be Brennan. Max was okay against 2 of the worst defenses in the Sec and nation last year.Florida defense gave up an avg of 428 yards a game and Mississippi defense even worse at 519 yards a game.

Per several insiders like Blake Ruffino, Josh Booty, and Rohan Davy, who until recently was in the Myles Brennan camp, Max Johnson has separated himself from Myles Brennan both in the locker room and on the field because he does what Jake Peetz wants the offense to do better than Myles Brennan. Now none of those guys are saying who they are hearing it from, but I assume they are hearing it from the players themselves in the locker room.

That’s weird because Myles Brennan attended the Jordan Palmer qb camp along with Peetz late June ??. Peetz spending time with the qb2? I don’t think so. Myles is the guy as he should be

It’s Brennan and it’s not near as close as people see. Myles was on record pace before the injury. Mad had several INTs dropped that would have been because of arm strength. He’ll get there but he’s not there yet. Don’t believe go back And watch the UF game they dropped at least 5 flat thrown out routes or comeback routes. Max will be a star but this is Myles job hands down.

Another “Myles’ arm makes him better” post. Why didn’t he start over Burrow with his bigger arm? (Hint: burrow could run).

It does sound like Myles.

Either way, we should have a hell of a backup in the event of an injury.

The backup will be Nussmeier. Whoever loses the QB competition out of Myles and Max will transfer.

Max won't transfer.

They won’t announce the starter until UCLA week. No one will transfer out that late.

It’s going to be Brennan.

It is going to be Max. His brother coming to LSU pretty much tells you that. In addition, what has Brennan done in his years here to convince you that he is better? Being older is not a reason to start. In EVERY position including QB the player who gives you the best opportunity to win is the one who should play. You do not go out and recruit top players to let them stand around and "wait their turn". There is no such thing as "waiting your turn" in sports. the better player should always play.

Myles was playing GREAT last year until he got hurt. He has about 1200 TDs in 3 games

What has he done while being here? Well, I don't know. Just went on a record pace that would've surpassed even Burrow if Brennan didn't get hurt last year. On a team that was playing worse for him than Max. You don't know what Brennan is capable of doing unless you give him a chance. He has already shown the potential. At the very least you give Brennan a shot with a short leash if he messes up.

But you started TJ over Max last year. Is it really gonna play out, Coach?

I honestly think that all the BLM BS contributed greatly to the TJ playing over Max situation. Any of you can down vote all you want but in last year's environment had Orgeron gone with Max instead of Finley he would have been called every name in the book and it would have absolutely 100% blown up.

I disagree with rob62. Take your BS somewhere else. BLM events were happening well before the season started. If what you said was true, then white at any position where there were battles? TJ Finley looked better that Max in practice. Max played better in games. End of story.
