Former LSU cornerback a new Houston Texans rookie Derek Stingley Jr. did a Q&A recently with The Spun and revealed which of his former teammates was tougher to guard in practice: Justin Jefferson or Ja’Marr Chase?

Jefferson does not have the physical gifts of Chase, but he works really, really hard at being a wide receiver. And it shows.

Jefferson has surprised many people including myself, a former ballplayer I thought would just turn out to be average at LSU as a player. Instead, he has turned into a bonafide star NFL WR which is surprising to me. He started his LSU career slow, but closed with a BANG! Out of all 3 brothers, he would have probably been the least favorite to succeed, instead, he's the one that makes it for the family. That's a nice story, although being a brother that grew up with 2 other brothers playing sports, I know that there has to be some jealousy. Probably, Jordan if I had to guess, but just be happy that Lil bro made it for the family.

I think that this is one of those things where other DBs might or might not agree. I think that Chase is faster and (like Stingley said) stronger, but I think that JJ makes harder cuts and runs better routes.

Chase is faster, stronger and a better leaper. JJ is a little taller and heavier and runs harder into and out of cuts. They are different and complimentary to each other.

Ace Midnight - I don't know if Jefferson is heavier, Chase has the shorter, stronger, and more compact frame which is why he's so strong. He's just built sturdier than Jefferson who has a longer frame at 6'3". But I agree with you in that Jefferson runs better routes.

Before I read it, I was just getting ready to say that Chase would be the tougher match-up because of how strong he is. Lol Chase is an animal with how strong he is, he'll throw you off of him like a small dog bothering a big dog. Lol Just unbelievably strong, fast, and good route runner.

dont care what anyone says, he was the best football player in the draft... lockdown corner and can play STs...glad he came to LSU, dont care what happened the last two years... hes still DBU and its well deserved.

Even as a freshman, his ability to get wide open and catch everything thrown his way really stood out. And physically tough, would often jump up after some really tough hits. Just a really good football player
