Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports
ESPN analyst David Pollack talked about LSU's early-season struggles on the latest episode of the CFB Podcast with Herbie, Pollack & Neghandi and suggested that the team looks too content after winning a championship last season.

He also said there is too much finger-pointing happening on the defensive side of the ball. Per 247Sports:
quote:

"A couple things I took away from LSU's defense," Pollack said. "A ton of finger pointing. A ton of, 'What happened, bro? Where were you? What's going on?' And then a lack of effort. And then, listen, you win a championship and what do we always marvel at with Dabo Swinney and Nick Saban? Somehow keeping those guys' edge, right? Like, keeping the fight and keeping the hammer down and not resting on their laurels. To me, LSU looks like they're pretty content."

"Like, 'We won a championship. We were awesome. We might not be good this year, but you know what? We won a championship.' That's frustrating to watch, from a standpoint of a defense that should be so much better that a corner in (sophomore Derek) Stingley that should be taking away half the field and looking even better than he did as a true freshman. And now you have a lot of finger pointing, a lack of effort and lack of caring."

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes. Pollack is right in this case.

First time I’ve ever agreed with Pollack.

I disagree that he is right on. Our issues are 99% coaching scheme. When players are not in the right positions to make plays, that is on the coaches. They are playing slow, because they are not sure what is going on. Again, that is on the coaches.

A broken clock is right twice a day. Pollack is right. The scheme & coaching on the defense is bad right now but the players are giving no effort and it’s obvious. The pulling up, the jogging and the finger pointing are unacceptable especially at this level.

David Pollack Says. Stopped reading right there. The guy is pretty good with his analysis and he's probably right here too...but for some reason his bias against LSU taints his opinions.

No doubt there is a Championship hangover, but that doesn't explain how bad they're playing. I mean, we are fricking aweful, the worst, but what is Florida's and Bama's excuse for their bad play on defense? Neither won a championship. For some reason Defenses in the SEC have not been up to snuff. With Georgia being the exception.

Covid and a lack of spring practice probably plays a part in why there are so many defensive issues across the conference. Yes, Georgia’s D looks legit, but I guess we will see how legit they really are, come Saturday.

SPOT ON, No one heart one heartbeat from this team. Defensive hustling is very noticeably lacking, some look like giving 50% effort. Change the line up, put guys in that have chest and want.
