Update: Dave Aranda is not expected to be the next head coach at UNLV.

LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda has been linked to the open head coaching jobs at Colorado State and UNLV, according to a report from Ross Dellenger with Sports Illustrated.

Aranda is the highest-paid assistant coach in college football, making $2.5 million a year.

During last year's Fiesta Bowl press conference, Aranda was asked about being a head coach in the future and said it was something he has always wanted.

I understand wanting to be a head coach but geeez wait for a better opportunity. It will come.

Uh oh. We are worried about Joe Brady leaving but now we got Aranda to worry about.

Not yet Dave. You are better than Colorado State and UNLV. Kirby was patient and ended up with the Georgia gig. Hold off another year

Well Jim McElwain parlayed the Colorado State job into the Florida job. If butter teeth could do it then Aranda can. He could take James Cregg with him. Cregg was a player and GA for CSU.

Maybe he wants to build up to something like that. Kirby was in Saban's hip pocket for so long, that he could have ran Bama to 10-2 and 11-1 seasons yearly.

Just like the rumors around Brady, this is just wishful thinking. If anything it'll mean a pay raise for Aranda. He isn't leaving LSU for some crummy head coaching gig.

He's already the highest paid assistant in the country and makes more than some P5 head coaches. I don't know how much more of a pay increase LSU will realistically be willing to pay in order to keep him if he wants to go be a HC, especially considering Orgeron is in line for a big raise and so is Brady. I think if Aranda stays, its only because he's waiting for a better HC job than UNLV or Colorado State.

Aranda does NOT need a pay raise. If he wants to leave he can be replaced.

Totally agree! Others are trying to take the Tigers off their game and we just need to stay focused. Go tigers!

We have shown we are willing to pony up for good coordinators so if he goes best of luck, but man those schools would suck to be the first head coaching job. At least go to a school with a good in state recruiting base.

It’s a good problem to have. When your team is as good as we are, everybody in the country is gonna come try to take a piece for themselves.

I agree, but right before the goddamn playoffs. The last thing the team needs is a break in routine or distractions.

I have to think SC will go after an offensive guy. Maybe with some head coaching experience. I have no idea why they hired Muschamp.

Don’t pay him stupid money to keep him from pursuing a head coaching position. If his ultimate goal is to run a program from soup to nuts, on his terms, let him go.

He probably wants to leave the way people went on after the Ole Miss game.

Why would he want to go to those shitty programs? He’ll leave eventually but for an actual good gig.

Is there a school that's less known in college football then unlv. I literally have never seen them play. Don't remember them ever even going to a bowl or have a player drafted
user avatar
Tigerpride1853 months
Well they did beat San Jose St, who beat arkansas. Lol Arkansas, what a joke.

I agree, I have watched college football for 50 years and have seen most teams, even living in Boise but have never seen a UNLV football game

Kenny Mayne played quarterback at UNLV while Randall Cunningham was there.

The most overrated DC in football. You have no facts to prove the defense improved under Aranda.

I’ve questioned him some for sure just like many but let’s see the next couple games play out before you jump up on your box. The last two weeks the Defense has had their best games so I’m optimistic.

Overrated? I'll trust the analysts , former coaches, and current coaches who say he's the best. Or close to it. Look at the stats when he was at programs capable of competing at a high level.. There unreal

Hell naw don't want chavis. Plus coach Oeaux does not like Chavis. But Aranda is in some serious talk with UNLV right now. Don't know how serious the other school is with aranda

Unfortunately, this is the price we are going to pay for having a championship program. Just like Alabama, schools will be coming for our assistant coaches. I do hope he stays here however.
