Brian Kelly addressed the media after Thursday's first day of fall practice. He was asked about running backs Josh Williams and John Emery Jr. and cornerback Zy Alexander, who are all returning to play after injuries last season.

Alexander and Emery Jr. both suffered ACL injuries last season but have been cleared for everything and are a full-go, Kelly said.

Kelly added that both players still need to experience physical moves like planting and cutting in practice before they feel 100 percent comfortable.

Kelly said that during Thursday's practice, Emery Jr. was taking "high-leverage reps that mattered" where he needed to cut and be stressed to test him.

On the other hand, Kelly said they wanted to give Williams "low-leverage reps" to be careful with him so he can play on Saturdays.

JE has had his struggles, academics and injuries over the last five years. If LSU football had a pension he’d be vested! Let’s hope he stays healthy and makes the best of his final year as a Tiger!

If they can keep Emery "reined in", he could be huge. He is so much fun to watch and just needs to pick his spots to preserve his body.
