LSU's depth at wide receiver has taken a hit recently with two early injuries.

Chris Hilton sat out the season opener vs. USC as he recovers from a bone bruise, and his replacement, Kyle Parker, suffered a UCL injury against the Trojans.

Hilton is getting close to returning to the field, according to head coach Brian Kelly, but Parker will miss some time to recover.

On Tuesday, Kelly identified redshirt freshman Shelton Sampson Jr. as a receiver who needs to have a big week in practice and make his way into the rotation on Saturdays.

"The guy that we need to get ready is Shelton Sampson," Kelly said. "He needs to be able to play for us. We have to get him on the field."

"This is a big week for him and the next weeks coming up. He needs to get in our rotation. If we get him in our rotation, it allows us to slide some people around. He becomes a focal point for us moving forward."

"He's important to us, and we need to get him going."

I have no idea why we brought in CJ Daniels from the transfer portal

Did he indicate what's currently keeping him off the field? It's just strange that we had all spring, summer, and fall camp to get him into the rotation but isn't a point of emphasis until after week one.
