While speaking at SEC Media Days on Monday, head coach Brian Kelly was asked about Garrett Nussmeier, who is poised to lead LSU after waiting his turn as a backup since arriving in 2021.

Nussmeier, a former four-star recruit from Flower Mound, Texas, could have easily hit the transfer portal two seasons ago but decided to wait patiently and develop under quarterback coach Joe Sloan.

On Monday, Kelly complimented Nussmeier on his decision to stay at LSU:
quote:

"Coming from a football family helps. And not chasing something somewhere else that was unknown because he knew what was right here for him. And he saw that we will develop our QBs here at LSU and continue to do that."

"He's got the keys to the car. I couldn't be happier for our football team, and that Garrett is leading it."

His maturity stands out. We are in good hands at QB going forward.

Really rooting for Nuss's success in the next couple of years! Not only for himself and this football team, but also for the longevity of this program as he sets example for future young QBs how patience and perseverance can still pay off big time in this new age of transfer portal.
