During Tuesday's press conference, head coach Brian Kelly was asked if they considered switching to Garrett Nussmeier during the Florida State game after LSU's passing game struggled under Jayden Daniels.

Kelly made it clear the plan was to stick with Daniels and he didn't have a conversation with offensive coordinator Mike Denbrook or quarterback coach Joe Sloan about making a change.

He added that Daniels will remain LSU's No. 1 quarterback moving forward.

Daniels went 26-35 (74.3%) for 209 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener. He also ran the ball 16 times for 114 yards, averaging 7.1 yards per run.

Full Transcrpit:

Q. Coach, how do you feel about Jayden's debut as the starting quarterback for LSU?

BRIAN KELLY: Yeah, I talked a little bit about it. I think early recognition needs to be better, but I thought he competed well. Thought later in the game he definitely settled into some really good rhythm. I think when we did go some tempo, that really benefited him.

I thought late his pocket presence was excellent. Knew when to run, stay in the pocket, and find the open receiver. So I think first game, you know, kind of a mixed bag early on. He settled into it nicely as the game went on.

That's not good enough against good teams. You got to be ready to go right out, and I think this will be probably a really good game, this past game, for him to really learn from and up his game.

Q. Sticking with the quarterbacks, at any point in the game did you consider going to Garrett, and might you expect to play both this weekend?

BRIAN KELLY: It was never a conversation. There was never a time during the game where Mike and I, Mike Denbrock that is, or Joe Sloan had a conversation about, Hey, let's make a change here. Let's see if that's the best option for us.

That was never a conversation. And right now, Jayden is or No. 1 quarterback.

The "game" is a lot faster with Daniels...whole team speeds up.
Don't know why Kelly would even consider switching now...but Nuss will get playing time when it is appropriate.

After watching the Southern game it is JD currently the man.

Time will tell. The MSU game coming is a must win. I hope JD gets better week to week. I would like to see Nuss this week in the second half if we pull away.

If he never even thought about it, then the QB competition was never really as close as he made it out to be. That's the ONLY conclusion you can draw from that.

You are correct

Here’s an alternate conclusion: he was playing fricking good, so why would it even be a conversation?

Was that from a reporter or a first grader who wandered in there?

Question should’ve been “have you discussed replacing Cam Cameron… I mean Ensminger….shit, denbrock yet”

BK stated before the game to expect to see both QBs. Was he expecting to blow out FSU? Why even say that?

When did he say that?

"When did he say that?"

He said it to the sideline reporter right before kickoff.

Dumb question. He played well and kept us in the game despite a horrible offensive gameplan in the first half.

So Nuss will be gone then

Baw needs to put on about 30lbs if he's gonna run that much in the SEC. Arkansas QB is the only one built for that.

That was a stupid question, Daniels had 300 yards of offense. I like see Nuss in Southern and New Mexico games.

You had 94 yards passing with 7 min left in the game and you never even thought about the other kid?

By the fourth we had em where we wanted em. LSU took over the fourth quarter.

It’s not one guys fault here. It’s the entire team again. This team will get better. This loss might turn out to have been the best thing for them. It was very humbling for them and gave them a gage of themselves. Now they know what needs to be done to be a better team. This team isn’t going to kick everyone’s arse and may not kick anyones arse but they will get better and they’ll fight to get where they need to be. We’ve seen this before where we look like we can’t beat anyone worth a darn but then we beat them. I want to see them get better and improve during the next 4 games.

The question should have been did you think about changing the oline. They suck at this point! And during fall camp they held their own against our d-line, our d-line is not going to live up to their hype!
