Three-star inside linebacker Zach Edwards from Starkville, MS announced Tuesday night that he has de-committed from LSU and has reopened his recruitment.

Edwards originally committed to LSU back on March 3, choosing the Tigers over Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M.

The 6-3, 217-pound prospect is rated a three-star prospect on 247 Sports and ESPN, and four-star on Rivals.

The de-commitment gives LSU 18 verbal commits for the class of 2019. The Tigers hold commitments from four-star linebacker Donte Starks and Marcel Brooks.

Is this the part where we talk about how he's not that good and we don't really need him?

Please tell me this is one of the kids that said “I’m 110% committed unless something changes” or something to that extent? Got to love it.

Best of luck to Zach Edwards! That said, this handwriting has been on the wall for months. With Starks and McCollum, he was "encouraged" to look elsewhere. Also heard he did test well, running slow. Still, he had given his verbal and I wish him nothing but the best.

This has been expected for a while now. Word is that this was a mutual decision.

So LSU took commitments from two other linebackers that he knows will beat him out from a starting position. Good luck to him being a starter somewhere else.

We’re doing ok at LB. I don’t think this one’s too crucial

Ive never been in his position but this says something about his personality and who he is as a very young man. We will benefit from this

Oh so you would still go to a school after their coaches made it clear you weren’t part of their plans anymore? And I’m definitely not taking a shot at LSU for going out and getting better guys, but I don’t blame the kid given the circumstances

He’s seen the talent that is commitng go LSU the last couple of weeks and got cold feet. He might be back and he might not. N worries though, we are in good hands.

It happens. Better players commit, other players go to aTm. Happens all the time in gumpville.

This is why you dont get excited about recruiting June/July. He won't be the last to decommitt between now and December.

Honestly, you have to consider a guy whose home town has another pretty decent SEC football school to be a fairly soft commit. He should go ahead and enjoy the recruiting process and when he is done, there will be a scholarship waiting for him at LSU...maybe.

In the back of my mind, this is why I don't trust verbal commits.

Most kids who commit that far out seem to end up where they committed to, but I agree that enough of them re-open their recruitment to where a verbal a year out from signing day is kinda like “eh”.
