LSU lost a commitment from talented four-star 2020 defensive tackle McKinnley Jackson this week.

There were rumbling on Wednesday that Jackson had reopened his recruitment and he confirmed the news with a Twitter announcement on Thursday.

Jackson, a 6-2, 280-pound prospect from Lucedale, MS (George County HS) originally gave his commitment to Ed Orgeron while visiting campus for the Texas A&M game this past season. His departure means that LSU does not have any verbal commitments for the class of 2020, for now.

Jackson is rated the No. 3 defensive tackle in the country and the No. 1 overall player from Mississippi, according to 247Sports' 2020 rankings. He already holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Florida State, among others.

Nobody should have anything negative to say to or about this kid. And I don't believe in coaches asking or expecting a 15 or 16 year old underclassman to commit anyway. A lot of people are upset at a recent silent commit who signed elsewhere at the last minute, and I agree, it is a little disrespectful, but it goes both ways. There's players on LSU's team who were committed elsewhere until the last day or two before signing day last year. The fact is, if Orgeron wants to sign top players, he better start winning championships. If he can't then there's always going to be other schools throwing that in the faces of these recruits. And who doesn't want to win championships. This idea that LSU can't win championships isn't due to anything Orgeron did, it's because Miles refused to hire a competent and successful OC who could compete against the best coaches in college football. Did anyone really believe Greg Studdrawa could match wits with Saban? Cam Cameron? He was fired by the Baltimore Ravens because the offense was terrible, and once he was replaced they go on and win the superbowl. I'm afraid Orgeron doesn't have the luxury of time to prove he can lead LSU to championships. This next season will determine his fate. They either win every single game except bama, or lose one or two and beat bama to show he can lead LSU to championships. If LSU loses 2 games and one of those loses is to bama, it will do nothing to change the perception that LSU can't win championships.

There is a 5th grader in Mandeville who is rethinking his commitment for the class of 2025 now. He said he thinks he is going to open things back up so he can take some trips and enjoy himself in this "once in a lifetime opportunity". It must be Orgeron's fault if we lose this commitment.
