LSU Sports - Chris Parent (@chrisparent)
LSU head coach Ed Orgeron met with the media on Thursday and announced that defensive line coach Dennis Johnson injured both his knees playing basketball and is in a wheelchair.

Orgeron said the Johnson will not be able to coach on the field this season but that the team has secured an NCAA waiver that will allow analyst and former USC defensive line coach Kenechi Udeze to step into Johnson's role.

Graduate assistant Christian LaCouture will also step up, Orgeron said.

Udeze came to LSU's staff in April after spending that last three seasons as USC's defensive line coach before he was let go in November by Clay Helton.

Orgeron was Udeze's defensive line coach 2001 to 2003.

How in the hell do you injure both knees and end up in a wheelchair from playing basketball? I've never heard of a basketball injury like that in my life. It makes me wonder if something else happened and they are just saying it was a basketball injury.

Needs to be let go once he’s recovered from his injuries.

For what reason?

He was already subpar in terms coaching and recruiting Dline. O has specifically talked about being more involved in those aspects (ie propping Meatball up because he can’t get it done by himself). And now he can’t coach for a year. I don’t care what the reason is, it’s unacceptable for someone who has already been a weak link.
