College Baseball Insider Kendall Rodgers reports that LSU has hired Arizona Baseball coach Jay Johnson as its next head coach.

Johnson, 44, was one of three finalists for the job, along with ECU's Cliff Godwin and Notre Dame's Link Jarrett.

Johnson, a native of Oroville, California, took the Wildcats to the College World Series twice during his five seasons in Tucson and was the runner-up to Coastal Carolina in the 2016 Championship series. His overall record at Arizona was 208–114.

Before his time with the Wildcats, Johnson was the head coach at Nevada from 2014-2015, where he posted a 72–42 record. During the 2015 season, the Wolf Pack won the Mountain West title, and Johnson was named Mountain West Coach of the Year.

My first reaction was negative because my focus was on Corbin but I'm starting to like this guy. Fresh blood! Lets get behind him and get our team back to its rightful place at the top!

Michigan state to football is way bigger than Arizona is to baseball. Do your research before you spout off bs. We’re talkin multiple natties and with some pretty good recent success. You’re right, it was a dumb comparison.

Saban walked into MSU a program that had just forfeited ALL of their games the previous season and had gone 4 straight without a winning season. The MSU president publicly said the prior coach had created a program that lacked institutional control (although the NCAA eventually said that was not the case). What recruit would not think that MSU was looking down the barrel of a gun? They had not won a NC for almost 30 years before Saban had gotten there. Arizona had won a CWS 4 years prior to Johnson showing up there. That had at least had a winning record the prior year. You missed a couple relevant facts in your "research".

Prefer Cliff Godwin. At least he had a history in the SEC. I think he was more of an overachiever also.
