LSU baseball signee Paxton Kling announced Wednesday that he will be removing his name from the 2022 MLB Draft and is headed to Baton Rouge to play for coach Jay Johnson.

Kling is an outfielder from Central High School in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania and won the 2021-22 Gatorade Player of the Year in Pennsylvania. He is considered a Top-50 MLB prospect.

Actually this is smart thinking on his part. We all know kids that went to play minor league baseball after high school and were never heard from again. This way he can play on tv every game with LSU…and hopefully, skip a level or two of semi-pro ball on his way to the majors.

He will have a hell of a lot more fun playing 2-3 years as a Tiger than slogging thru A/AA/AAA. He'll have plenty of time to do that later. $1 million is great, but if his family isn't busted broke, they are making a great investment in his future by becoming part of a storied program.

Wow… well there’s 1 domino. If we can get at least 3-5 of our top 10 players to stay, especially some of those pitchers, LSU will definitely be in contention but imagine what this team will look like in 2-3 more years if JJ can continue on this path? LSU will be back baby! At that point they either need to renovate the stadium OR build a new one. They need an upgrade there and would deserve it if he gets us back to dominating college baseball again.

There’s no such thing as having to wait 2-3 years with the new rules. If so..then you’re not playing the game correctly.

This kid was never meant to come to Baton Rouge but what a great turn of events! I don't know what Jay Johnson is selling but this kid is passing up millions of $ to be a Tiger!!

Probably not millions. Nowadays all of these clubs are calling and low balling kids asking what they would be willing to sign for. The 50th pick for instance is looking at 1.5 million. Clubs are probably offering 1 million cause they want a deal to sign others. They will take a kid at 50 that will take less.

It helps that he will be draft eligible in 2 years. Get to experience college ball and the CWS and play under a great coaching staff against the best competition. 2 years will fly by and he can very well be one of the top picks
