Post-Herrick/Tony Cole and excluding Damon's fiasco (who was dismissed shortly thereafter), and after years of Mark Richt as head coach, I would be very surprised if UGA hires Pitino. I'd bet the boosters and alumni base would have some pretty strong words against the move if they brought him in.

It's basketball. Nobody cares about perception or probation in this league. If this were football, no way in hell he gets a phone call. The general consensus, sadly, is so what if we get probation in basketball.
