This 8-Year-Old Girl’s Baseball Highlight Reel Has The Internet Buzzing
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports
Ashlynn Therien is 8 years old and her highlight has the the internet all a buzz...
quote:

Last year, Ashlynn, a 7-year old from Toronto, was awarded the MVP award from the opposing team during Regional Finals. “After the game,” said her dad, Dan, “[a parent on our team] told me that girls shouldn’t be playing baseball and that they should stick to softball. Then, at tryouts, the coach cut her from the team.”

Our response? Their loss. •
In just 10 days, this 8-year old is headed to #BFANationals to join hundreds of girls from North America and abroad to do what they do best: play baseball. •
“I don’t think it has ever occurred to Ashlynn that some people think that girls can’t do things that boys can do,” says Dan. •
We’re right there with you, Ashlynn—and we’ve got your back

I’m going to call bullshite in the entire premise of this video. I bet that was never said. Girls got good instincts for tracking down the ball

Are we just going to ignore the fact that she dropped the first ball?

Up until about 10, girls typically mature much faster than boys. Let her play if she's better, though we also didn't get to see her bat.

You got that right. The 2 best fielders on my son's t-ball team this year were girls.

Are some people on here really going to critique and criticize an 8 year old child? Get a life.

our 8u travel team catcher is a spectacular girl baseball player. Hit a few out this year as well - yes, kid pitch and she pitches as well. Personally, I like the dynamic it adds to the team and look for them. Had a stud young lady play with us until 16u. When she finally did switch to softball, she broke a ton of PAC 10 hitting records.

What does her ability to catch a pop fly have to do with her ability to play baseball? She can be an amazing fielder and still not be a baseball player. I’m sure there are tons of young ladies around the country that can catch a fly ball and ground ball just as good or better than this young lady. Let me know when she gets to HS and starts facing decent pitching. If she’s able to not only hit it, but is strong enough to get it out of the infield on a regular basis, then I’ll be impressed. Until then, she’s just a good athlete that just so happens to be a girl.

Dude, relax, she's 8. Catches were great.

Cobb Dawg I don’t see where I said her catches weren’t very good. I just said there are numerous girls her age that can do that. Her making great catches doesn’t mean she should automatically get a shot at playing baseball. All I see is a video of a really good softball player. We had to get one of our players sisters to play the outfield/bat in a practice game bc the other team was short. The boys were 11-12 and she was 9. She caught a pop fly one inning and then a line drive hit by her brother to end the game. The only issue was when she tried to hit. She’s as good a softball player as she can be for a 9yo, but she couldn’t hang with the guys when it came to hitting. This girl is good, but there are many out there just like her.

You know honestly sometimes it sucks that girls just cant keep up with Guys in certain sports once puberty hits. A kid like this could be amazing, but realistically she wont be as strong or as built as a guy doing the same training. And before you get all SJW on me, lets not forget Testosterone is a real thing that only one gender creates.

Females produce testosterone as well....just smaller amounts.
