Just saw it. Agree with all the thumbs up.

I couldn’t help but thinking it was kind of a “Top Gun Maverick” film. Call backs, Cruise must face his past of 30 years ago, plenty motorcycles, ends up in the mountains.

Except my only gripe was, and correct me if I’m wrong, it was a history they made up in the 2nd to last movie.

I literally thought I had forgotten something.

Hell, Ethan literally was married in this franchise and they didn’t even reference that lol.

Have we seen him and the girl he killed in the other movies? I couldn’t remember if that is from an earlier movie or was brought up for the first time. No, this is the first movie they’ve appeared in. It’s never been mentioned before. What happened between him and Gabriel apparently occurred before he joined the IMF.

Just got out and it was great as expected.

The beforehand scene between Gabriel and Ethan was reminiscent of his lover’s death in MI1 but that was a knife, not a gun.

—True..I think he really “let go” of the wife at the end of the last movie.

Too bad for Hayley Atwell, tho, given Ethan’s track record with hanging on to girlfriends/wife

I saw it last night. It was a solid flick. I give it a 7.5/10.

Top Gun: Maverick was kind of a Mission Impossible film more than anything, but you’re right. The similarities are interesting.

Thought this one kinda sucked.

Lost me immediately when they wanted me to believe that some electronic keys found under ice caps still work.

Of all they have done in this movie franchise waterproofing a key is where you draw the line of suspending belief?

These movies are incredible and the newest entry is fantastic. It’s still a step or two below ‘Fallout’, which I think is far and away the best of the franchise.

My biggest gripe is that the cast was a little too big. I don’t think Shea Whiggam and his partner needed anything near the screen time that they got.

Counterpoint: Shea Whiggam needs all the screen time. I also assume there will be payoff with Whiggam and the partner in the next part.

Why? He added nothing to the film.

If they had a bigger role in mind, they should’ve cast a bigger actor.

Things happened so fast the last 20 minutes. What happened to the White Widow?

That message at the beginning with Tom cruise and I guess the director, was evidence of Tom’s awareness of the customer. Just the idea that they are aware that Hollywood is shitting on the fans speaks volumes.

This was only part 1. It seems his bigger role will come in the second half.

OK film. Plot is not great. Can't stand Vanessa Kirby. Atwell was good eye candy. Still don't care about Ferguson.

Film needs another big male presence like Renner or Cavill. Cruise essentially disappeared from the movie for 15 mins during the train finale.

Honestly, there were way too many copies of Fast and Furious scenes, too, just done way better (train on cliff vs bus on cliff and both Rome car chases that use the EXACT same city location).

Esai Morales not a great villain.

Is it better than 95% of all other films being released now? Yes. Is it as good as I thought it was going to be? No.

This is your line of demarcation when it comes to suspending your disbelief? You have seen and enjoyed these movies yes?

Good grief, dude. The bus on a cliff thing is from The Italian Job 1969.

Yes, and if they have a bigger role, they should’ve gone to get a bigger actor.

Was planning to go see this next weekend on the 22nd in Dolby Cinema but it looks like most AMC theaters are already replacing it with Barbie and moving it to a standard screen.

shite fricking sucks.

That was another plus for me with Ghost Protocol...narrowed focus, smaller cast.

The entire cast of players fits on a poster:
