250lb plus couldn’t hang in there and catch the ball to first base?
I had to tune out after 7 innings - sorry to hear that Jones made an error for the loss.
But I think he has been great at first - not the magician that we had last year - but he has made some really great plays - even duplicating the 'magical' push toss to the plate to nail a runner coming in from 3rd on a bunt - almost as good as Morgan's 'once in a lifetime' play last year.
But I think there were plenty of bone-head plays that I did see which would not have put us in the 'one error means defeat' position that we evidently faced last night.
missing 3rd base comes in high on that list.

A shite take is arguing for the last play to be interference
didn't see the play, but reading the commentary, this is what it sounds like to me.
The runner is restricted to a narrow lane just outside the foul line on a play like that - (assuming there was something like a bunt down the first base line)
The catcher? MUST deliver the ball for a fair territory catch without ANY imposition onto the runner's lane. Otherwise it would be interference.
You CANNOT 'mix-it-up' with the runner in a situation like that - that is almost as bad as not touching 3rd base on the way home with two out.

First baseman is taught to set up on the inside of the bag to give the catcher a lane to throw to
Almost impossible to adjust to a ball thrown on the other side of the bag from that short a distance
Really not a lot Jones can do there on that type of bad throw

Let’s play a scenario. So jones catches it, gets truck sticked, and gets concussed and is out at least a week. We are still fricked because we lose the next 2 anyways without our hottest player.
Blaming jones is a really easy, bullshite misplacement of blame

In Jones defense he needed to be 10' tall and have 8' arms to handle a lot of tosses to first this year to make a much needed out!!

Jones made no attempt to move to his left to catch the throw! He stayed put. He has been a defensive liability all season long... this is not the first time he has not known how to move and position his feet... guess it doesn't come naturally to him???

Why couldn’t our defensive specialist catcher just make a good 45 foot throw?

Why not blame Herring for walking 3 straight with 2 outs?

All of that is coachable. It's a shame but since Travenski is your DH, Jones doesn't have a position to play. First base and LF are your two least important for athelism. Why in the SEC their should be enough talent at every position that can hit. Like last year every position could hit. Not this year. It's just a off year. Beloso from last year could hit but was without a position but he was no hack in the field. So it's another year of waiting.. it's all about foot movement and Jones don't have that. Saying that the error was on Milazzo. The pitcher should have made the play. He had the angle but Milazzo called him off.

you hang in there for your team right there. Youve been there with those guys all year. You owe it to them
Of course, but there’s no way that was a conscious decision. It happened too fast. It was a subconscious reflex. There is absolutely zero chance at all that Jared Jones had time to think through and decided to pull his arm back as some sort of business decision. Don’t be ridiculous.
You played baseball. Still do, if I recall. How many players did you play with that could just stand in there and wear a 90 mph fastball. And the few you may have, how many thousands of reps did it take them to retrain their brains, that are naturally programmed to avoid danger and to try to get out of the way? I doubt seriously Jones has practiced that play. It would be almost impossible to recreate it anyway, with the runner in the same spot, running at the same speed, with the catcher picking the ball up right there at that angle, get squared up to him, then adjust to a 90 mph wild arse throw throw from 45 feet away that tailed in a totally angle than he he expected and took his glove arm into the runner?

Bear needs hit the MLB draft asap and get away from this type of crap.

. Looked like jones tried to catch the ball behind the running instead of in front. That particular play for a righty is damn near impossible from the bag.

It has been the case multiple times this year, trying to stretch for a ball that had no chance of staying on the bag for.

But jones gave it a 1/10 effort and was scared of contact
Show a first baseman in the world that makes that play.

I thought about Morgan after the disaster, he would have made that catch at first!
No, he wouldn’t have. That was a rocket from 50 feet away. There is very little time to react - not enough to move your feet, and he wasn’t reaching that without a big lunge.

Well, we know who hasn't watched LSU baseball all season.
