re: State of Education in Louisiana and how to improve it - RJSambola on 10/4/17 at 7:52 am
The thought that no child should be allowed to fail makes the system worse. It results in the bar being slowly lowered over time. That is why we have kids "graduating" high school who can't write competently, can't do basic math, read at a 6th grade level. ...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: Best online financial firm for individual stock purchase? - RJSambola on 9/29/17 at 10:24 am
But if he already has a vanguard account he could do all of his research through their platform and just execute through robinhood. Best of both worlds....Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (2)
re: Why were house prices going up like crazy during the housing bubble? - RJSambola on 9/19/17 at 5:34 pm
Additionally banks/brokers decided everyone deserved a loan. It didn't matter if they could pay it back because they weren't going to be ending up holding them....Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
re: Writing a check against a credit card account - is there a catch? - RJSambola on 9/18/17 at 10:40 am
But that is strictly for balance transfers, not an open check to deposit into your bank account. And basically they are just making the bet that if you already carry a balance you will keep doing it, but this time on their card....Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
re: Writing a check against a credit card account - is there a catch? - RJSambola on 9/15/17 at 12:49 pm
I think people are dramatically underestimating the fee that will accompany the check. I wouls assume it is treated as a cash advance which is probably hit with a percentage fee of 3%. Immediately eating up any interest gains. Maybe you get to net zero if you get rewards for it. But usually cash adv...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (2)
re: Bond funds for long-term savings? - RJSambola on 8/11/17 at 2:32 pm
Theoretically you could if the fund stopped new acquisitions, however the fund itself will continually add more bonds pushing the duration to the target duration of the fund instead of reaching 0. Hopefully that typed as well as my brain thought it....Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: 50,000 Dow - RJSambola on 6/23/17 at 5:54 pm
I think we will get there. The amount of money in the market via passive funds will push it there. Inflation caused by increased investment dollars. People are being conditioned to believe passive funds are completely safe set it and forget it. The broad buy strategies will propel the dow upwards...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
re: I'm looking into investing based on dividends... - RJSambola on 6/8/17 at 1:29 pm
You have yo buy it before the ex div date to get the dividend. Also on the morning of ex div the stock will drop by the dividend amount since that dividend value is no longer attached to that share...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: Credit Score Drop - RJSambola on 4/19/17 at 8:23 am
Exactly that. The report pulls on a certain day of the month. If you aren't shopping for a loan i would wait until the last day to pay (maximize your 0.0% loan term). When it comes time to shop for a loan pay it 3 or 4 days before the reporting date....Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)
re: What is the best wealth building strategy out there? - RJSambola on 4/4/17 at 7:46 am
I've heard BOIL has become predictable. Seems like a good way to build wealth. Seriously though, real estate has to be it. But early on a string of bad renters will kill you, especially in a state with heavy tenant protection laws....Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (0)

re: Best way to payoff mortgage early? - RJSambola on 2/10/17 at 7:20 am
This is one of those things that rationally makes sense, but emotionally the thought of having the biggest debt albatross of your life removed from your neck makes it hard to justify taking it to term. I know better, i know i know better, but i still can't stop myself from paying extra towards it...Jump to Post - View Topic - Replies (1)
