Construction trade unions use apprenticeship programs to train these workers for these trades.
That makes sense, but what if the worker went to a trade or tech school and has no benefit to being in the union. He should be allowed to a construction job and to negotiate his salary w...
There are places for unions, particularly in the highly skilled labor force that works construction.
If they are highly skilled, why do they need a union to protect their job/pay. Their ability and skill would be their bargaining tool It would seem to me that those that lack s...

re: Black household net worth $2,200; White folk $97,000.... - JOlivier
The old adage of "why work for it when someone will give it to you or do it for you?" can apply to many walks of life and many circumstances. When I was at Tulane, this girl from Long Island (Range Rover, Prada bag, designer sunglasses, etc); called me to come help her fill her gas tank. WTF?...

re: Donald Trump for President? - JOlivier
Well you know, if Congress is sleeping like usual, they might forget to get into his business dealings. Kind of like how they forgot to ensure President Obama meets the Constitutional Law that requires the President to be an American Citizen. (For the record, I think he is. However, Congress sh...

Donald Trump for President? - JOlivier
His ideas and policies are amazing and are what all of the common-sense Americans are touting. Even better, he is confident, proud, and will not let any other country or organization screw with us economically or militarily. See the several interviews below to catch a glimpse of his views. [lin...
This is why you fail. Companies exist and strive to make a profit. Without profit, you have no reason to be in business.
I have to say, you are right in referring to the EPB service in my city. If a private company were to drop its profit margins in order to provide a bette...

re: How about another heaping helping of Hope and Change? - JOlivier
It's only going to get worse. Prices will continue to rise mainly due to three things: 1. Oil prices 2. Corn prices, due to its new expanded role with ethanol 3. An increase in the global economy causing the dollar value to decline globally Home devalue, outsourcing and more government regula...
Government can do just fine out of the gate, they start up with ample funding to provide service that meets acceptable standards. But can't keep up after that.
Agreed, for the most part. However, if the company is not relying on federal dollars to fund its operations and R&D (ie, ...

EPB does not have a monopoly as an ISP. It competes with Comcast, Direct TV, Dish Network, Verizon, and ATT. Honestly, EPB's service is just better. It's prices are right in the middle. TVA does not have a monopoly as a power provider. Competes heavily with Entergy, Duke Power, Dominion, Pr...

re: Republican whores in North Carolina forbid municipal internet service - JOlivier
The issue is how far of a reach can these public companies extend their influence. If you start bankrupting private companies, then there is a problem. That has never come close to happening. There is a delicate balance at play. Also, this fiber-optic Gbps internet service is attracting large-...

re: Republican whores in North Carolina forbid municipal internet service - JOlivier
Correct. EPB is a not-for profit, self-sufficient utility 'owned' by the city. The city started the company back in the '30s and passed an ordnance in the '60s that they had to be self-sufficient. The same for TVA, they were funded by the federal government in the '30s as part of the New Deal...
