Posted by Dingleberry Dan on 4/2/24 at 7:17 am
Does anyone have any insight on when it is safe for chickens to graze on grass/soil that has been treated by Scott’s Bonus S weed and feed?...
re: What soil mixture do you use for starting raised garden beds?

This is what I wanted to do initially, but is vermiculite crazy expensive or is it just me? All I can find are 8 quart bags that are $8+. To do 1/3 vermiculite in one 4x8’ raised bed would need a little more than 6 cubic feet of vermiculite (~$200 at least). Is my math totally off or is this just so...
What soil mixture do you use for starting raised garden beds?

Will be filling two new 4’ x 8’ cinder block raised beds soon, trying to decide how to do this in the most cost-effective manner while still ensuring good outcomes. I’m thinking buying in bulk will probably be the best option, but I’m a little skeptical of the quality of soil I’ll be getting. Fillin...
re: New raised garden beds - what type of wood to use?

Thanks for all the ideas and comments, they are very much appreciated. I think I have settled on making the beds with cinder blocks. It’s hard to pass up the price and longevity. Initially, I was pretty dead set on using cedar but it’s just so much more expensive and I don’t trust that they won’t ro...

Just curious, do you remember the price of your cedar boards when you got them? I need a laugh. ...

I have to admit, I’m most concerned with how the cinder block beds will look. But those pictures look pretty good!...
New raised garden beds - what type of wood to use?
Posted by Dingleberry Dan on 3/17/23 at 9:30 am
Trying to decide what type of wood to use for new raised garden beds in NW LA. They will have ground contact. Information I have come across seems mixed in terms of whether or not pressure treated wood is safe for vegetables/herbs. I'm afraid if I use untreated wood (even cedar or redwood - which is...

I've done tons of research on them, but I have never seen one in person and there aren't any dealers anywhere close (all more than 5 hours away). What did you like/dislike about it that made you want to buy it (assuming they had one in stock)?...
