Going up to Philly for the Redskins @ Eagles games the night of October 23rd and wondering which area of town to stay in? From what I've gathered there aren't too many great options within walking distance to the stadium so a cab/uber ride wouldn't bother us. Would prefer to stay somewhere with restaurants/bars close, i'll be running the marathon in D.C. the day before so would like to keep walking to a minimum. TIA

I can tell you what areas to avoid pretty easily: West Philly (Kensington) and North Philly (Near Temple). Center city is nice with plenty of hotels. Rittenhouse square, fishtown or old city are good areas to go out for some drinks and food

I usually stay at the Monaco which is right beside Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, so great for touring. Great hotel and walking to the sites.

And if you cheering for the Eagles, you can take the trains, if a Skins fan, uber.

Looks like the Monaco is sold out, as are a ton of other hotels for some reason. We found this place, The Dwight D which is on the cheaper end of what is available at $329/night. Anyone have any expierence with this place or can speak to the location/know of any places in the area to eat and drink at if we choose to stay here? LINK

And being a fan of neither team, we will probably be rooting for the eagles just to be safe

I would stay around Ben Franklin parkway not far from the art museum. Easy few blocks to both city hall and the Rittenhouse square area. Rittenhouse is probably my favorite area in Philly. Get the buffalo chicken sandwich from Devil's Alley, a Wiz Wit from Pat's King of Steaks, and a beer at Monk's.

I second this. Walking around Old City is great.

Whatever you do,if you stay at any of the Marriotts just realize there are 3/4 of them all connected to each other downtown with ever so slightly different names.

Stayed there for a wedding.

I also tried a few of the "best" cheese steaks. Not sure what the fuss is about really. I know, blasphemy.

A few years ago, I stayed at the Four Points right next to the convention center. It's a great hotel, comfortable, clean, and it's a one block walk through the convention center to the Reading Terminal Market. Beneath this, you can also get a metro to and from the airport.

Continue past the Market and you're in City Center with all the restaurants, bars, and the original Holt's Cigar Shop. I'd stay here again.

Pretty much what everyone said, Rittenhouse, Center City, Old City, or Art Museum. With that being said, I just checked hotwire.com for that night and saw some CRAZY prices, I assume, due to the Eagles Monday night game. Don't be afraid to maybe stretch it out to University City if need be and take an Uber over the bridge to Center City to hang out if it saves you a couple hundred bucks. The Study Hotel in U City is brand new and is around $300 for the night. Might be an option.
