Max distance of 3k miles. Staying in the US.

Has to have a temperature in the 50s or below at night in early june. I'm building a rooftop tent and cannot sleep if hot. Would like areas where I can get a spot to camp and then later have access to a shower at least every other day.

We are considering going to yellowstone again, but we have been before. I typically prefer a journey rather than a destination, so I am considering Northern maine or montana.

Limitations: we will have my old bulldog with us and he can't handle temps above 85ish with any activity. Can hike anywhere if the temps and humidity aren't up.

We love the roads less traveled and do not touch interstates.

You temperature requirements narrow things quickly. Basically head towards Canada. Seattle, Portland, Minnesota, Maine.

While I've traipsed around that area extensively, I'm pretty sure it will get above 85 during the day in June.

As someone else said, you're going to have to head pretty far north. Even Colorado at elevation can get above 85 in June.

Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine. Hiking, good roads, plenty campgrounds, temps will be moderate. Fairly easy drive from Louisiana(guessing where you are starting). You can stop in the Smokies and just about follow the Appalachian ridge going north. Just remember hiking in the White Mountains is more like rock scrambling sometimes. Many trails aren't dog friendly.

Other than that, head to the rockies and just explore. Hiking trails have longer gentler grades than eastern mountains.

This past summer me and my family went down Route 66 to the Grande Canyon. Was an amazing trip. Highly recommend it.

Lots of dog friendly trails in the Pacific NW. Day trips or longer camping trips. The Cascade, Olympic, or Wallowa Mountain ranges all have great options that fit your criteria.

I don't mean to hijack, but I am considering a road trip as well.

-8 nights with car rental
-can fly anywhere to start
-fly out of anywhere to return
-girlfriend and I
-Either summer, Mardi Gras, or Spring Break (she works in school system)

Options I was thinking:
Denver-Utah-Grand Canyon-Vegas
Salt Lake City-Yosemite-Oregon
Pacific Coast Hwy-Big Sur

I've been to Seattle, SF, LA, San Diego, Denver, Salt Lake, and Vegas, so not worried about spending a lot of time in the big cities

Just follow me. I'm doing the Adirondacks, Green Mountains, White Mountains, the North Woods and Baxter State Park, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia in June.

Ahh, I didn't think about that. Yea, I'm sure vaccination papers are a requirement.

It's actually the 55$ fee for an untrained guy to look at the dog and declare it sick or healthy that ranlles a bit.

Marble, CO is worth a look. The town itself has little to offer but it's the best base-camp to explore the Maroon Bells - Snowmass wilderness. It should meet your temperature requirements since it's at 8000 ft.

This seems like the best bet.

If I can get to blue ridge in north georgia on the first day, we can wander up the coast and camp from then on out.

Have a little over a month to finish the rooftop tent, test everything, and get everything squared away. Trying to decide how long we shall be gone.

Can you tell me more about this? Could flying into SF and Big Sur be done with this in a 7-8 nights? I would love to spend a day/night in Friday Harbor like I did a few years ago.

Thinking about definitely making zion park out of Vegas in October as well.
