So I am itching for some trip planning. What trips you guys have planned already?

I have a booked week in Jackson Hole 1/5-1/10 already. Group of 12.

Any of you guys know if it is possible for me to rent a snowmobile to access some backcountry skiing at like 25 short or Edelweiss?

Looking to add 1-2 weekend trips to spots on my mountain collective season pass.

Can't wait! First time not having an Epic pass in two years. Just didn't use it enough to make it worth it. Spent all my days using that pass at ABasin.

So I went with:
Steamboat + Winter Park pass (3 days at Crested Butte & Deer Valley)
ABasin midweek pass
Silverton unguided pass

My bosses in the winter also have to US ski team gold passes (50 days each at basically every resort in the states).

Got big goals this season. I'm sitting at 123 days this ski season (October-October is what I consider seasons). Shooting for 150 days for 2017/18. 50 of those days in the backcountry.

On a 11 month skiing streak right now. After September, I should be skiing on this winters snow. I can't wait. Skiing glaciers is fun, but gimme da pow.

Do you ever utilize powderproject.com?

I'm trying to get into more off piste stuff and their mapping/guides seem to be pretty sweet.

I have used PowderProject. It's good resource to scout some zones and more popular backcountry lines. Doesn't always give the easiest or best route, but it's a good starting point. Nothing beats Topo maps and route finding skills.

I waited until spring snowpack consolidated last year to go backcountry and got some really cool couloirs, and steeper lines. Silver Couloir on Buffalo Mountain in Silverthorne is probably the most impressive, and classic line I've ski'd. Can see it from I-70. Pretty cool to point and say "I've ski'd that" when you drive by.

I plan on more backcountry mid-winter, but it'll mostly be low angle, gladed skiing to stay out of avalanche terrain and mid-winter instabilities. Gonna explore the side country out of Steamboats access gates as well.

Hopefully I'll meet up with HippieTiger for some RMNP tours.

You gonna come around Colorado way? Aspen is on the collective right?

Yeah, Aspen and Telluride

May have to make a 3 day weekend trip to one of those.

We make our small trips powder chasers. We watch weather and book flights to get there during a storm.

We were in Steamboat in your neck of the woods last season for that big storm before Xmas. Was incredible. We caught that 20"+ Friday. Pretty sure me and my buddy saw you in the gondola line.

Ah yeah. I remember you mentioning that. December and January were so good here. Then nothing rest of the year.

But gonna be a record breaker this year. All time snow fall in the Boat! Heard it here first

You should be able to time an easy trip to SLC and hit Snowbird/Alta on the collective. They're a perfect spot for a quick powder chase.

Does anyone have a recommendation for early December Skiing?

Haven't been snowboarding since Jackson Hole February 2016. Headed to Park City mardi gras weekend this year. Can't wait! Haven't been there in a few years.

What ya looking for exactly? I'd say somewhere in Colorado is your best bet for early season snow, but even that is no guarantee. You can get some good lodging deals. Stay at Keystone, ski ABasin for a cheap getaway close to Denver. (And because ABasin is the best mountain in Summit County, so might as well stay away from Vail Resorts.)

But again, it all depends on what your looking for in the ski vacation. Deals to be had in early December, but snow conditions can vary. My first year living in the mountains, I had 3 weeks worth of powder with more coming by early December. Last year, no snow until Thanksgiving, and then it started dumping in December, but nothing was open on the mountain because of the late start.

I bought the RMSP+ this year again so I'll make 3 week long trips to CO this season. Have only booked flights so far for my son's and I trip Dec16-23 and his spring break the last week in March. Will most likely use the other other week late January/Early February.

Will probably end up doing Winter Park for Spring Break but will wait and see who is getting early snow for December.

What is your employment? How do you afford to travel, pay for everything around the world?

Fair question.

I'm an assistant golf course superintendent in Steamboat Springs in the summer. And in the winter I deliver rental skis for a ski shop. Hopefully I'll be year round at the golf course sometime within the next few years and that's when I really step up my skiing game. My boss got to go heli skiing in Alaska last year. Bastard.

But basically, I'm a broke ski bum. Be jealous of my ski days, but trust me, my bank account reflects my choice to live in an expensive mountain town and work low paying winter jobs so I can ski every day.

I spend little on ski passes, and actually skiing. If I visit somewhere I stay with a friend or crash in my car. You can ski for cheap once you have the gear and multi mountain passes.

Skiing is one of life's greatest pleasures so I've figured out a life where I get to enjoy it on a regular basis.

I'm lucky to pull that off but still trying to find more time as well, haha. I do stay in about as cheap/basic accommodations as I can find, eat cheap and bring my lunch on mountain, typically drink beers back at the hotel vs a bar and have gotten pretty good about finding good deals on flights/rental cars. My 3 weeks combine probably come out to between $4500-$5k, which is pretty good when you see a lot of people spending that or more for just one week.

Biggest expense now is putting two boys in ski school. My oldest who can ski well says he wants to snowboard now so I have to start saving for those lessons.

I highly recommend a trip to Steamboat if you have not been. Like I posted earlier my good friend and I chased powder there last December and it was absolutely incredible.

We bought our flight about 5 days prior to arrival after watching the weather. We caught that massive winter storm that shutdown the countries airports for a weekend.

It snowed everyday we were there, with a 20" dump Thursday night through Friday.

It was a surreal Steamboat champagne pow day with people cheering, singing, whistling etc. in the lift lines and skiing. The mountain was buzzing with celebrations.

Thursday was like 1 10" day and the mountain was empty. Friday morning there were thousands of people in line. Most drove up from I-70 corridor overnight for the pow day.

Yep we did Steamboat last December and probably will again this December. We were supposed to fly in on that Saturday the 17th but our flights got cancelled into Denver so we lost a day. Ended up getting 6" on our last day before going home. Was impressed with Steamboat and definitely want to go back

I've never been skiing (or really have a desire to do it), but during my trip to New Mexico a couple weeks ago, I discovered a ski resort in the town of Coudcroft. The town (or village) was beautiful. It was kind of weird because it is in the south part of New Mexico, but it is at an elevation of 8000+ feet.
