My wife and I are going to New york at the end of June for our fifth anniversary. Neither of us have been before. Of the three airports nearby, which is the most convenient to fly into? I've been searching flights through Delta, Jetblue and Southwest. All are around $300 round trip right now. Does that sound normal from MSY or should I wait it out a lil longer? Plan on staying around Times Square. Any tips and info is greatly appreciated

That's about a normal price but I've definitely seen slightly cheaper many times.

They are all the same to me in terms of airports. Some will say Newark, some will say JFK.

I personally am not a LaGuardia fan, but that's just me.

I can fly into Jfk with Delta and out of Newark with United for around $250 through priceline. Does JFK have a train into the city?

Go to Google Flights and set up alerts for price changes in the flights you are looking at.

If it's your first time to NY, 30 Rock would be s good place to be so you can hit up all the normal tourist haunts.

I would just advise you spend some time in other areas away from some of the tourist traps.

I saw you're going for your 5-year anniversary. I cannot recommend Le Coucou (weird name I know) for a nice dinner. Best meal of my life was there.

We've always used LGA, but that's because it's easier for our friends to pick us up there.

I've always gotten the impression there's not a ton of difference in travel between LGA and JFK, and Newark is further away (therefore, the more discount option).

If you're at all interested in food, I highly recommend taking a food tour - I took my mom on one through this operator (it was 10 degrees, but we still went!). We did the Original Greenwich Village one and they took us to places I go back to each time we visit.

JFK is the nicest in my opinion. There twice on Tuesday. I have always felt LGA was the most convienent to midtown or upper manhattan. I personally don't like Newark.

If you are price sensitive and there are big difference go with the cheapest. If you are flying from MSY I love the DL nonstops to either JFK or LGA.

times square is pretty much the worst touristy part of NYC to visit. It sucks pretty hard.

Look on tripadvisor at the top rated hotels. Lots to choose from. Don't stay in times square. $300 is a decent price for airfare. If you don't play the credit card points game, it would be a good time to start.

I have rewards points but was saving them to fly the kids to Disney next year. Can't do 10 hours in a car with 3 toddlers

I was talking about getting new cards to help pay for some of the cost. Some cards have 4th night free and large sign up bonuses.

I tried getting a new card last month but I was denied because we just closed on a house the month before. They told me to give it a few months. Don't understand why, my ratios are still plenty good and so is our credit scores.

Look, it's your first time in NYC - stay near Times Square. Especially if you plan on seeing any shows. Once you get a feel for the various parts of the city, you can decide where you'd like to stay next time.

Near Columbus Circle is another good option that allows you to get anywhere in the city pretty easily, but I do not recommend this place.. It looks pretty and shiny, but the rooms are actually crap.

People will tell you to not stay near Times Square BUT my daughter and I did as I didn't want to be on the subway or in a cab late at night after shows. She was 15 and it was to be a "fun mother/daughter trip" for us both.

We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Times Square I believe on 48th street. It was nice and clean; we're going back at Mardi Gras and staying there. Was RIGHT across from the subway station and walking to most everywhere we needed.

We flew to LGA last summer and will again this time.

why not, too busy?

I also have never been to NY but me and 3 others are going there in March, all of us for the first time. We are staying a few blocks from TS.

I haven't ruled out airbnb. Didn't bring it up to the wife yet. Anybody have experience using this? I've never been one to care about hotel rooms, I just want a place to crash and shower when I'm out of town.
