Travel Board/Money Board Success Story with Airfare to Arizona

Been worried about the price of airfare from BHM or ATL to PHX on a Monday to Thursday trip at the end of March.
After trying for a week to figure out how to get an itinerary for 3 people (including a three year old) for under $1000, I somehow stumbled through my Wells Fargo Rewards program tickets for $850 roundtrip.
BHM prices were exorbitant - $1200+ plus difficult flight times with long layovers. ATL definitely cut the price down, but it was still too expensive. I did find a deal for $440 roundtrip for three tickets but it was through Frontier Airlines. After reading horrific reviews about them, I decided to keep looking but much to my dismay, the only way I could get the prices below $1000 from ATL was to again have difficult flight times (630am flight ain't happening with a 3 year old) and long layovers.
Then this morning, I checked again but decided to extend the stay to Friday. $850 on Delta. Nonstop flight from ATL to PHX leaving at 440pm. Nonstop return flight from PHX to ATL leaving at 1pm.
Yeah I gotta drive to and from Atlanta, but after applying my Rewards points, I cut the price down to $500.
Now if only I can find a decent hotel room for less than $150/night.

What is the Wells Fargo program you mentioned?

It's the rewards program with my credit card. Not the best in the world, but it's been convenient for us. We'll probably switch to a better travel card if we move to Arizona.
Saves us about ~$500/year. We put everything on it except our mortgage.

Not gonna happen. Between Spring Training and being right before Final Four(which is in PHX this year), all travel costs will be much higher anywhere in the PHX metro area.

Southwest has a round trip for $306/person

$266 pp ATL-PHX Delta is a good price. Not sure what more it is you are looking for. Flights aren't free

I don't think you read the OP.

Phoenix is the most expensive large city to travel to. Especially from the southeast. When Clemson went to the National Title Game and Fiesta Bowl flight prices were insane.
