Will be up there June 22-25 so I am excited that it will be a great time of year weather wise.

We will be staying at the Marriott Waterfront which is downtown by Congress street i believe. I have meetings Thursday and Friday morning but the GF is going to come along and we are going to enjoy a nice weekend in a place neither of us have ever visited.

Thanks in advance

I go there for work some.

Gilberts Chowder House - on the waterfront, not fancy, but great cheap chowder.

Duckfat - some really great Belgian fries

They have really great microbrews...I like the Thirsty Pig for food and drinks. I like Bunker Brewing Co a little outside of city and a rather new one called Lone Pine.

Walk the streets and browse, it is a great little town.

For sites to visit, Kennebunkport is about 30-40 minutes away and great clam stands down there. If you want to see old old New England, go to Old Orchard Beach which used to be popular back in the day for beach goers.

As kid from the south I am never man enough for the water there.

And oh yeah, get some ice cream up there. They are famous for it. Who knew they ate more per capita than anywhere in the uS>

Have fun

To add to what was just posted, let me just say I really hope y'all enjoy beer. There are some fantastic breweries in Portland.

Allagash
Maine Brewing Co.
Bissell Brothers
Rising Tide
Liquid Art
The list goes on and on...

Thank you both so much for the advice - extremely helpful!

I'll be sure to show pics upon my return.

Cheers

I'm moving to Stonington, ME for the summer to work at a restaurant called Aragosta. It's a little bit of a drive from Portland, 3ish hours or so. There's some cool looking B&Bs around the town but it looks beautiful. Come check it out if you run out of things to do? (You won't, everything I've read said Portland is where its at in Maine.)

Might be fun to take the ferry across to Peak's Island. Some awesome views looking back at Portland and you could rent bikes or a golf cart to cruise around the island.

Also seconding the recommendation if you are looking for a day trip to Kennebunkport. It's probably 40 minutes away but is an awesome quaint coastal town.

I haven't been to Portland, but the wife and I spent a long weekend in Bar Harbor last October and had a great time. I would consider renting a car and driving up US 1 for the weekend, maybe stay at a little B&B somewhere. If you're flying, Bangor isn't too far away to leave from

I was there a year ago. I enjoyed getting on a lobster boat, baiting traps, and catching lobster.

When the boat gets back to the dock, you can buy the fresh lobster you caught (cheaper than any other option), carry it to a a nearby restaurant and have them cook it for you. It doesn't get fresher than that.

Another vote for Kennebunk and Old Orchard Beach. OOB was overly touristy and maybe a bit of a trashy Jersey Shore vibe but I'd go back just for the pizza by the slice places on the street. I love love love Kennebunk and Kennebunkport.

Sebago Lake is awesome.

My inlaws keep talking about a mailboat run to a little island, I believe there are several.

Fore st is the best restaurant in town imo.
Novare res is a great beer bar. Great selection and Lots of oddball stuff.
If you are there on a day that Bissel brothers is open, you need to go.

I'm going for a week stay on Sabago Lake in late June / early July. What is it like there then weatherwise? I hope to escape some Louisiana heat.

Should be great. Can get cool (by Louisiana standards) at night and the morning. A light jacket or sweatshirt will do. During the day it will get into the 80's with little humidity.
Bring bug spray. Maine can be as bad as the south for mosquitoes.

I'm wondering if this will be worth a day trip while we're in Boston this June? I certainly want to score some Bissell Brothers beer. Hmmmm.... Any other must do's in Portland?
