Amon Carter museum is free and has Remington and Russell paintings as well as other great exhibits. If you are really into art the Kimbell and Museum of Modern Art are next door. October would be a good time to go to the zoo and Japanese garden too. Not sure of your age but West 7th street is sorta like Austin's 6th street....Not a good thing in my book but may be fun if you are in your 20s..... Although Magnolia Motors Lounge has good live music. The Near Southside area is probably my favorite area to hang... It's basically Magnolia Avenue south of downtown the other side of i30. The Bearded Lady is a good craft beer place in an old house on Magnolia.

These are great places to start. The Stockyard is very touristy, but there are some good places to eat.

Ft. Worth has a few good breweries, if you like beer.

I would definitely try Reata in Sundance Square.

Fancy a burger for lunch? Try Kincaid's. It was a neighborhood grocery/pharmacy and they started serving burgers. It's worth your time, but I THINK they close in the afternoon, but may have changed since I was there years and years ago.

Not sure if you'd be interested in this but there is a U.S. Mint in Ft Worth that gives free tours. We went and it was really interesting and cool. They basically take you through the complex on a catwalk. It's not very crowded either. Just something different to do.
